St Croix Premier are super solid and pretty sensitive too.

great rods, and under $150 too.

  If you like the Premier, try the St. Croix Triumph line. They're business-like. And less expensive.      jj

Berkley Lightning Rod Shock. They're durable and surprisingly sensitive and way under your budget. I have several I use for fishing from the bank and my kayak.

What do you mean by rough on your gear?  Like using your rod to clear brush and flip logs to check for snakes?

Gosh, for $150 you can get a Daiwa Aird X from TW, a Daiwa Fuego from eBay, and still have money left over to get some new jigs from @Siebert Outdoors.  It's like Xmas without the tree.
