What's with the Red Eye Shad?

Every now and then I get one that doesn't run true. I don't want to say it's frequent or infrequent, or every other, or every few, because it's so variable. It's just that I noticably get a RES that runs on it's side frequently enough to where it's aggravating. I never get a bad Rat-L-Trap or Booyah lipless.

I'm trying to figure out what to do with my bunch. I can't sell them in good conscience and I won't use them.

Ive never noticed a quality control issue with the Red Eye Shad, but I did have a few of the old Strike King Diamond Shads that would roll over and track awkwardly. Whenever I get a Trap like that, I usually just put a suspend-a-dot on the nose and then tune the line tie, and it keeps them tracking better.

Strike King will replace them for you. Contact them. Their Customer Service is top notch....and it has to be because their quality control is terrible.....at least for hard baits. I fished their stuff almost exclusively for years but gave up on them a couple of seasons ago when almost everything I bought from them had issues. I don't have these issues with Spro, Lucky Craft, or Booyah.

I bought some recently to compare them to Rat-L-Traps. Fished Traps my whole life. But I’ll be honest I got hung up with all the hype on this site over them. Bought patterns that should produce. If I run across your problem I’ll just give them away. They were ridiculous cheap at BPS. maybe that is why they were so cheap.

I prefer the Bill Lewis traps. I catch a lot more with those than the RES. I don't think I've ever bought a RES that wouldn't run true, but I've had issues with the hooks breaking.

I have 3 RES's and one of them runs on its side.  I will say I have had some great days with the ones that do run true.  My go-to lipless is a Cordell Super Spot, especially in the craw patterns.

Heard lots of stories of guys sending defective RES back to Strike King and getting them replaced plus some.

I haven't experienced the hype of the Red Eye Shad personally.  I still have 4 of the old Berkley Frenzy lipless cranks and I'm going to keep throwing those until I lose them all.

I probably should have always done that. I usually pick them up at Walmart. The idea of taking a lure back to Walmart that has seen the water feels weird to me, but it's probably the easiest place to do so.

I have a bunch I bought like.....two Black Fridays ago?  In any case, none of the ones from that purchase I have bough will run true.  I don't care enough to replace them as I can still use them in high-risk places, but I will not be buying any more.

Yup, when they first came out, they all seemed to run true, then it became more and more of a problem. I think it has to do with the BBs getting stuck to the plastic or glue, but not sure. I've gone back to my old sugar shads, and they do just as good. They should just rebrand them Norman® at this point....
