Socalbassmaster Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I was wondering if anyone takes on a little water while fishing. I can't tell if its my live wells or one of the lines going to the live well, Or the drain plug is leaking. So bummed its kinda a lot of water enough that when I turn the bilge on it runs for 15 seconds with water and its red water. I checked for an oil leak nothing like that. And it takes about 3 hours to get that much water unless I move a lot Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I think we need a little more info. Are you in a glass or aluminum boat? I am assuming aluminum but you never know. Quote
Splat Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I have a Aluminum Grumman 16 ft. and I consider it "normal to take on some water. Were not talking alot but after 3 hours on the water maybe enough for the bilge(800 gph) to take care of in 5-8 sec or so. It's not much at all. Bill Quote
Socalbassmaster Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 Sorry it is a 89 390v ranger fiber glass. We took it out today and trolled the small lake at Castaic and there was not even a drop. So it must be gushing back in when I have the big motor on. And I'm coming to a stop I always gas it a little before the wave hits me, Maybe I should slow down sooner Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 24, 2008 Super User Posted June 24, 2008 Both of our Skeeters are completely dry after a day of fishing. My son's is a 1988 Skeeter Starfire and unless he dumps water from the livewells there is none. Quote
FisinCrazee Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 SCBM. If you have a speedo speed indicator on your boat, check the plastic hose. It will develop a hole or crack and only put water in boat when running under power of big engine. Dry on electric or slow speed of gas engine as there is really not any noticeable pressure. Been there, had that. Was getting several gallons of water each trip. Changed hose, problem gone. It is a dog to find. Hope this has helped you or someone else. Bob Quote
Seabolt Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 My 18 foot aluminum takes on a good amount of water each outing too. I docked it on a trailer and filled the hull with water and didn't get a leak anywhere. I was told it could be a hose too but without changing each one it could be VERY difficult to find. Your theory of water rushing in when slowing down could be true though. The marina I deal with, just replaced my impeller and I asked them and they said it could be a bad seal in my airator or bilge and when getting hit by wake they could be letting in water. I'm in the same boat. I am taking it this weekend back to have them check for me. I'll let you know what I find, as it may help. Quote
