THE_Vue's Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Such a bummer I could of took 1st on our kayak tournament. All because of my stupid service wouldn't upload my catch I submitted. Deadline was 2pm came in early too just so I can submit them. Had to hot spot with someone else phone got 4 to submit and just seconds away from submitting my last fish and it didnt register. Said something like tournament is done or finished. Anyone ever had this happen to them. Host wouldn't let me submit him too. Lesson learned Quote
Glaucus Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Why were you using someone's phone hot spot? If you are out of data and/or service in a tournament in which you need data and service to upload your catches, these things will happen. Sorry to hear this anyways. I'm afraid no system is perfect and someone will always walk away unhappy and feeling like they've been unjustly left behind. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 9, 2019 Super User Posted June 9, 2019 Bummer. Sorry to read about your situation. Hopefully you can correct it in the future. Quote
THE_Vue's Posted June 9, 2019 Author Posted June 9, 2019 I should of clarify. I didnt have reception with my provider from Verizon. So last min we got 4 to submit with hotspot with my friends phone. Even then it took about 15 min just to upload 4 fishes and I was so close submitting last fish and pending, time was up. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 9, 2019 Super User Posted June 9, 2019 i am sure there is some sort of rule in regard to this but with metadata you can easily see when a pic was taken. If the tourney directors can't mine that metadata then i would be real hesitant to fish in their tournaments anyways. 1 Quote

What type of weighing system were you using? .....ScoreTracker ?? Quote
THE_Vue's Posted June 9, 2019 Author Posted June 9, 2019 Yes I dont know the term for it though. 5 longest fish measure wins Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted June 10, 2019 Super User Posted June 10, 2019 Hahaha, looking to throw MLF/BPT under the bus any way possible. Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 I came very close to this happening to me last year in a tourney. It would have cost me third place and a good amount of money. If I'm fishing an area that I know I do not have cell service I make sure I get off the water early enough so that I can get to an area with service or WiFi and submit my fish before the deadline. I know it sucks but it you can't get your fish submitted in time then you are SOL. On 6/9/2019 at 2:45 PM, Jim Liechty said: What type of weighing system were you using? .....ScoreTracker ?? TourneyX is a software used for managing kayak tourneys. They go by photos of fish on a measuring board and tourneys are won based on length. Quote

TourneyX predates MLF. @THE_Vue's that stinks. I've fished TourneyX tournaments and fished where I had no service, so I always left myself plenty of time to upload. I sort feel like it's similar to making a long run for good fish in a bass boat tournament - you gotta leave time for the run back. 2 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted June 13, 2019 Super User Posted June 13, 2019 That does stink. But, lesson learned. TourneyX sends you confirmation if your fish submittal went through. If you don't get that email, it is totally incumbent upon the yakker to get in to the TD well before 'lines-in'. Then you can swap SD cards, hot spot, NFC, blue tooth, USB, WiFi, etc....lots of options in-person. I fish two different clubs. Both use TourneyX. In one, the TD takes submissions up to 30 min after lines-in, as long as photo meta time stamped before 'lines-in'. The other has no such 'extension'...if I don't get email confirmation of fish submittal, I make sure to get back to the ramp/TD prior to tourney end. 1 Quote
Smalls Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 Our trail can’t even use TourneyX because none of our lakes, and usually even the surrounding towns don’t have service. Our tournament directors have gotten extremely efficient at looking at 20-35 different phones to verify pictures. ? I’d definitely be a little sour if that happened to me. Maybe find a Starbucks or somewhere with WiFi near by before tourney day if you anticipate service being an issue in the future. Quote
