Armtx77 Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 Im having issues deciding which direction to go. I have been using NanoFil the past season and a half and it is starting to lose the ghost with knots breaking at the eye. My set ups are finesse for throwing Senko's, 3.8 Keitechs, 1/16-1/8 Rooster tails. This is being done on either a 7' M/L-Fast HMG or 7' M-Fast HMG. With a Diawa 1500 BG and 8lbs NanoFil. The vast majority of my fishing is bank or kayak fishing and I have a baitcast set up as well, but I run 832Sufix on it and am happy. Im looking for one line, one weight and no leaders. I like the feel that braid gives, but will it throw the small inline spinners? I like the idea of flouro, but I am lazy and dont wany to have to spray conditioner all the time. Most of my fishing is local lagoons and soft bottom rivers with down falls for cover. The NanoFil has been ok, but I feel after a season and a half, it is best suited for ultra light applications and I will continue to use it in thise applications. So, flouro or braid...an age old question. Quote

I have no issue pulling line and reversing it. Tatsu is what prompted this post. It gets great reviews, but the cost...If I can get a couple seasons out of it, it would be in the top 3 for me...based on reviews. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 8, 2019 Super User Posted June 8, 2019 No. Try InvizX at a lower pricing point. Quote

Any real difference between 6lbs and 8lbs Seagaur Flouro's diameters? The line diameter between the two is practically identical, across their flouro offerings. Just curious if one "fishes" any different than the other? ETA: I ask, because my BG's max out at 100yds of 8lbs. I could bounce for some Tatsu and get two reels filled with a 200 yds spool and that reverse each spool at the end of summer for fall/winter fishin Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 8, 2019 Super User Posted June 8, 2019 Fishing from the bank using inline spinners line twist will be a major factor using spinning tackle regardless of the brands. FC is a high memory line and twist issues are a problem, the reason line conditioners work somewhat. You will have the twist problem using monofilament line of any type because the reel puts 1 twist into the line with every rotation. Braid also gets twisted but because it's yard with very low memory it take time to show up in wind knots or poor performance. You will be happier going with straight small diameter braid or straight monofilament line under .010 diameter and changing it often. Sunline Super Natural 8 lb = .009 D or Yo-Zuri Hybrid 4 lb = .009 D Tom 1 1 Quote

Tom I just finished pulling the NanoFil off of a couple of spools and upon further inspection, I feel like line twist is what finally got that line. I had flipped it already and both ends had the twist and about 40yds in the middle that looked "new". Thanks for the post, gives me some food for thought. I carry a spare spool, so I may look into carrying something a second set up. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted June 8, 2019 Super User Posted June 8, 2019 Inline spinners DO NOT twist line if they are running correctly. Only the blade is supposed to spin, not the entire lure. If your spinner twists your line, replace the lure. Suffix 832 braid in 10lb test will easily throw small spinners or any other lure you’d want to throw. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 8, 2019 Super User Posted June 8, 2019 You can untwist line by running 75 yards behind a boat, a Kayak may take longer but worth trying on your way back if not fishing. There isn't anyway to get around line twist using a spinning reel without using a high quality swivel (Spro) to allow the line to untwist or using the water to untwist without anything tied on the end. Brew City Bass Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 What's your water clarity? If you're like me fishing lakes with 20ft+ visibility, I'd just go fluoro. If you're fishing stained lakes, might as well go straight braid. I love the feel of braid. I adore it's strength and it's cast-ability. Like I said though, I fish super clear lakes, so I compromised and ended up going braid to 5ft fluoro leader. I've yet to have a knot break or let loose on my leader. If I feel the knot wasn't the best, I just re-tie til I'm confident. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted June 8, 2019 Super User Posted June 8, 2019 I mostly fish with either Power Pro braid or Berkeley Big Game mono and use leaders when needed. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 9, 2019 Super User Posted June 9, 2019 No nylon or flourocarbon will last that long. Quote
Glaucus Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 10-15lb Power Pro Braid to 4-6lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid offers me the best results with spinning gear at a good price. 10lb PP = 2lb diameter mono equivalent 15lb PP = 4lb diameter mono equivalent 4lb YZH = about 7.5lb breaking strength 6lb YZH = about 11.9lb breaking strength Use the leader if you need abrasion resistance and/or if visibility is an issue. Straight braid otherwise. Quote
