This may be a really dumb question, but bear with me!  :-[

I am really friggin tired of standing on my head to get the plug in and out of my bilge!  So is there a way to change my boat to an external plug?  I am a little leery of using the normal rubber expanding plug (t handle twist type) on the outside, unless you fine folks can tell me that its standard practice.  I did a bit of google-ing on the subject and got mixed results.

So can you guys help me out???  Is there an adapter kit or something that you can use to change it to a threaded fitting or something?

Thanks!

There is a unit that can be put in with a plastic plug that has a T on the end of it.  I have had it on my last 2 boats but installing it will depend on what you already have and how hard it is to get out.

I have run the type of plug you mention many hundreds of hours on the outside of the boat and had no problem.

I don't pull my plug on the boat.  That is why I have a pump.

I use the expanding type. No issue. You really shouldn't have to open it though. I leave mine closed all the time unless I take on water (which has happened) I'll take it out on the trailer to dry it.

I use the screw in type from the outside and have never had a problem with it.

There is a type of plug at Academy that is basically a check valve.  It installs where it should, and as long as the pressure outside of the boat is greater than inside, it will remain closed.  When you pull the boat out, it will open and drain whatever remains.

You can also change your innie to an outie with a little cosmetic surgery :)
