5by3 Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 Bought a new rod recently with the “new” mid-micro guides and noticed that when I reel in my bait close to the rod rip, I can feel the line gently rubbing on the guides to the point that it puts little kinks in my line about 3-4 feet from my bait. The line is not frayed and seems fine aside from the kinks. It’s only the first couple of feet above where my bait is tied on. It does not kink further down in the spool. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a way to fix it? Edit: I’m using fluorocarbon on this set up. I don’t get the kinked up line if I use braid on the same rod. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 I’m not sure what’s going on there but don’t see how just running across a guide kinks line. The line runs across the guide regardless of size as well so that shouldn’t be a factor either. 1 Quote
waymont Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 Make sure your line is going through the ring and not the guide brace. If the line is going through the brace instead of the ring it could curl your line. No guide will cause kinks if the line is going through the ring. Is your line twisted? Quote

Big Rick Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 Sounds like you have line twist that condenses in the last 3 ft of line and causes your line to form coils that tangle with your guides. The reason you're not kinking further down the spool when you've made a cast is the line twist has many feet in which to disperse. Once you've reeled in most of your line these twists condense down and are concentrated on the last few feet of line. 1 Quote
