Anyone have any luck at John’s Lake in clermont? Only been there once before and blanked.

Ok, you should still be able to catch some fish then.

Johns Lake sees a lot of fishing pressure, so the limited bank space would be a huge hindrance if you didn't have a boat.

If you put in at the ramp off of SR50, there is a nice hole just south of the ramp. The tournaments (during DST, there is a weekly Wednesday night tourney) weigh and release at the ramp, so there are usually a few around that area. Other areas to check is the north side of Turkey Island and the choke point on the western lobe.

I'm not sure what the current state of hydrilla is now as FWC did some heavy spraying in February and March, but look for hydrilla around any of these areas with a nice ledge or drop off.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I’ll be out there tomorrow morning at sunrise. I’ll be sure to post how it went.

To put it simply, the weather today was crap. Arrived at 630 am and launched. Tried the west side of the lake first and had zero bites in light rain and gusty winds. We then went to the canal that separates the two lakes going east fished the mouth and had 1 miss on a speed worm. Believe it was probably a mud fish. Started fishing a swim jig and caught 2 small bass @1 1/2 - 2 lbs. on consecutive casts around the first  couple of docks. The weather turned worse and we called it a day. Didn’t make it out of clermont before the rain stopped but after checking radar we decided to go ahead and head back to Lakeland. 2 fish in 2 hours isn’t terrible all things considered. Definitely going back in the near future. Oh and the hydrilla is dense in a lot of areas as well as eelgrass, and maiden cane.

At least you didn’t get skunked. :toothy9:

Yes, Florida fishing greatly depends on the weather. Rain and/or wind can be good as they will often chase baits, probably why you had luck with the speed worm and swim jig.

Glad to hear you found some good weedy areas as hopefully you can use those to find some big fish next time around.

Good luck.

When you hired Chuck, did you go to the Butler chain?

Yes, however I requested Butler Chain because I use to live there and wanted to fish my old stomping grounds.

Nice! I kind of figured based on the lures you said you used, it was Butler with Chuck.

Johns Lake is similar to Butler (contour wise having some good grass lines with deep drop offs). If the water is clear (relative like Butler) or you find clear water, the techniques you were shown Butler will work on Johns.

Chuck fishes Johns Lake, so it might be worth searching his videos.

Thank you. I live in Weeki Wachee and fish Rousseau and Tarpon a ton. Lots of big bass in both. I think I have a good plan in place. Only time will tell. Probably going to head up to Henderson this Friday.
