5/0 Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 Hi All, I ask this question because I want to use cheap 8 lb. mono backing on some of my reels and save money by getting more out of a spool of main line The main line could be anything from 10-65 lb. braid to 10-20 lb. flouro. My reels are older Shimanos that don't print the Recovery in the specs. So I took a reel that had 12 lb. flouro on it and marked a spot on the line and turned the handle one turn and marked again, it came out to be about 25". Would this 25" recovery be close enough for any line that I choose to spool my reels with? Thanks in advance, Joe Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted June 6, 2019 Super User Posted June 6, 2019 Assuming we are talking about a BC reel, 12-15 lb mono would make a better backing, though anything will work I guess. While "recovery" or IPT isn't a constant, it can be calculated for a given "fill" of a spool IPT= the diameter of the spool (as filled) times pi times gear ration. Quote
