The night started out rough. The G3 was loaded and ready to go. Mother Nature was having none of it. The wind was blowing too hard. The wife and I decided to load the poles up to try bridge fishing. I broke the tip off my jig rod when I closed the tail gate. We get to the river and it’s flowing really fast from last Friday’s 3 inches of rain we got in 4 hours. Not very optimistic. Third cast I tossed a jig to an area with little current and one hop and she slammed it! 3-10 was her final weight, 3-8 was the previous PB.

Thank you sir! Thankfully it broke right at the second guide from the tip so it wasn’t an issue. I’ll fix it up this weekend, but it did the trick. I’m still trying to get my first lake smallmouth, but for now I’ll take what I can get.

Nice fish, nice continuing effort under challenge.  Don't throw the rod away, it can be fixed, most likely.

I’m getting a repair kit. It broke in a good spot so it won’t be too bad, just and inch or so shorter.

Why do you have to lose an inch or so?  Broken that close to the tip?

It’s probably closer to two inches. It was just before the second guide. It’s a W&M Skeet Reece Jig rod.

That's about the worst place.  Farther down the added weight of a sleeve is most often not noticed.  But the weight right at the worst place to add weight, iffy.  I expect you're just going to put a new tiptop on the blank?  Might be the best option.  I'm not sure what I'd do, but I'd try something.

IF you just put a new tiptop on, try it out before moving that first guide and see how you like it.  If it's ok, then move or remove the guide.  If it's not ok, you still can try the sleeve.  Might then have to remove, then replace the first guide if the sleeve gets into it, which it sounds like it will.  Good luck

My plan was to just to add a tip and call it good. I’ll take a closer look at it and go from there.

Good plan.  It may be that the rod will change to fulfill another function in your inventory, or it may be relatively unchanged.  I'm not sure the sleeve method is practical that close to the tip and I don't know another option.
