I have a bunch of 1.5 squarebills I’d like to swap out the stock hooks on. Not really sure where to begin in terms of size, bend, strength, manufacturer. What do you use ?

Thanks T

I use Mustad KVD Elite short shank triple grip 1x strong and 2x short.  On the 1.5 I prefer #2 on the front and  #4 on the back.   You can cetainly use two #4's which is what it comes with as well.

I usually use the Owner ST-36, but recently bought some of the Gamakatsu TGW Finesse MH hooks. Both work great. I usually use the stock hook size, or use a slightly larger front hook like @A-Jay does

Check out the Owner ST-35 short shanks.

"The ST-35 trebles also feature Owner’s 150-degree Premium Point Position design, which splits two hook points out 150-degrees versus the typical 120-degrees between all three points. This allows the hook points to be positioned slightly farther out from your bait and help increase your hook up percentage. Opening the gap to 150-degrees also minimizes damage to your bait from the hook points, while keeping the hook points sharper over time as well. Equipped with sticky sharp Super Needle Points and Owner’s Silky Gray frictionless finish, the Owner Stinger ST-35 Short Shank Treble Hooks deliver faster hook penetration on top of their improved hook up ratio."

Been using them for a few seasons now - it's a keeper.

Really killer front hook for 'wider' cranks - like square bills and deeper diving bait.

Pretty sweet on topwater too as long as the hook hanger is inline with the bait.

If it goes side to side (many Megabass baits) - this hook will not hang right.

I've had my eye on them for a bit now, I'll have to give them a shot. I'll admit that I used to use Owner for all of my hooks, but the TGW Finesse hooks are just so d**n good that they're slowly taking over all of my treble baits. I spent wayyyyy more than I care to admit this winter replacing all of my jerkbait hooks with the regular Nano Finesse hooks. Sharp doesn't even begin to describe them.

Yup - me too.

And on top of that,  over the past several years, I have accumulated a totally ridiculous collection of stocker trebles.  All brand new, never been wet, replaced out of the pack.  Assorted manufactures in sizes 6 thru 1/0.

Tried to sell them here a few months back, for a nominal fee - surprised there were no takers.

For the casual stock treble hook user - it's easily at least one life-time supply.

Come at me Bro.

Owner ST-36

That's what I replace my stock hooks with. I still have a few left and once those are gone I'm looking into trying the ST-41. Anyone have experience with these?

I've used them, not a fan, and I love Owner hooks. The cutting point slices a big hole in the fishes mouth and makes it easier for the to toss the bait imo. Also not really sure what the point is to the slight inward curvature is but it seems like it would make it more difficult for the point to start digging and I can't shake that feeling so it makes it difficult for me to be confident in them, so at that point they're basically worthless.

I like the EWG Mustad, Eagle Claw, and Gamakatsu, and Owner ST 36s on my baits and I'll often mix them up with an EWG on the front and round bend on the back.

I thought I was the only one who like the Owner ST-36 but not the ST-41 for the same exact reason!!!  I use the ST-36 on jerkbaits and I use a mix of hooks on cranks but most are Mustad 1X triple grips. I have the ST-41s on 5 heavily used baits that 2X strong hooks don't alter the action of the crank at all. The issue is losing fish and I noticed that I don't need to use pliers to unhook the fish that I do land, they pull out pretty easily.

Funny but I would legit be interested in your stock squarebill trebles because I never change the hooks on my KVD 1.0s, 1.5s, and 2.5s. I never have an issue with fish, just the rivers rocks I get snagged on.
