Derek1 Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 A little something I came up with in my search to hike and bring a few choices. It has a space for a few spinnerbaits/chatterbait and swimbaits. A 1.5 and 2.5 crankbait. A spot for a couple jigs and a space to throw a couple different size hooks and weights. Also a little more than a bag And a half of plastics that can be mixed and matched for the outing. It’s the 5”x 9” box about a 1-1/4” thick modified for the baits I wanted to bring. Fits in the back pocket of a pair of loose jeans or in any cargo pocket. Knife and pliers In Your other pocket and your on the move. It’s basically given me two choices each for three rods. 3 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 29, 2019 Super User Posted May 29, 2019 Nice..I have and continue to carry a good sized backpack, being that I want as many baits as possible, plus terminal tackle as well. The only things I don't haul around any longer is a heavy swimbait rig and 3 libs of swimbaits..Just can't leave home with any thing less..lol Quote
AlTheFisherman313 Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 I wish I could fish lite, I show up with 6 medium Plano boxes packed with lures and a bag of soft plastics/terminal tackle to run them. They all fit in my backpack though! So bank fishing for me is as simple as tossing on my back pack and moving down the bank rod in each hand and a landing net in the rod holder. I dont understand the rod holder on the backpack unless your using a 2 piece with my 7 foot poles and where the holder sits in as tall as a semi truck lol! Quote
Derek1 Posted May 29, 2019 Author Posted May 29, 2019 Yeah, I have the backpack also. I find I switch baits to often when I have to much stuff, and the loaded backpack is 50 pounds it feels like. I’m trying to learn to make a decision when I get there and look at the water. Basically take a few options I think fit the conditions that day and give them a chance to work or not. I feel like I learn more about each individual outing this way opposed to just junk fishing everything I have. I seem to be catching more fish and more quality fish on purpose this way if that makes sense. 2 Quote
ClintIsKING Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Good idea. I carry a normal sized backpack and have everything I need. I don't switch too often considering I limited how many lures I have. I do carry about 12 bags of plastics though lol Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 29, 2019 Super User Posted May 29, 2019 Wow! I like to travel light but that is ultra-light I use a sling backpack from Samurai Tactical this season and I love it. Holds just enough gear and I can cast with it on. It holds my pliers, scissors, hook remover, fish grippers, scale, tape measure, sunscreen, bug spray, first aid kit, hand wipes, flexible cutting board, knife, 1 3600 size box (could fit another 3700 size box if I wanted) multiple bags of soft plastics, towel and rod holders. 2 Quote
greentrout Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 it's all i need this summer ... the worm is the ultimate bait in the summer ... good fishing ... 3 Quote
redmeansdistortion Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 That's pretty sweet. Like you I pack light when fishing the banks. It's nice being mobile and having the ability to crawl through the undergrowth. This is the chest pack I wear. In mine, I carry a Plano 3450 double sided box with an assortment of jig heads, bullet weights, worm hooks, crankbaits, spinners, and spoons. I also carry a few bags of soft plastics, a pair of hemos, a spool of leader material, and some line cutters. I tried the backpack thing and while it was nice, I found myself over packing and not using but a small portion of what was packed. 3 Quote
Crankin4Bass Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 I also like to go minimal when bank fishing. One rod and an older small Simms sling pack. A couple bags of plastics, hooks, a few lures in a Plano 3400, hemostats, side cutter, first aid kit, bug spray, license, and water. I recently added a headlamp because some times "one more cast" leaves me with walk in the dark back to the car. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted May 30, 2019 Super User Posted May 30, 2019 One rod, one reel, a pair of pliers and whatever fits in a ziploc bag that I can fit in my pocket - nothing more. 6 Quote

MartinTheFisherman Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 I use to carry a backpack with 8 Plano Boxes, tons of soft plastics and four rods. After a couple of outing, I decided it was time to just pack the essentials... I'm starting to use the same thing this year, just a small backpack with a 3400 Plano box, a small scale, pliers, some soft plastics, and two rods. Everything you need for a great day of fishing! Super User scaleface Posted May 30, 2019 Super User Posted May 30, 2019 For bank fishing , mobility is the key . Just a cheapo fishing vest and and one rod and reel . 2 Quote
LCG Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 When I want to keep it light and simple I use a small double sided Plano box with zman plastics and various jigs, hooks, and weights. This is way more than I truly need, but variety is nice too. Always bring a multi-tool to use as a knife and pliers. One spinning combo. 1 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted May 30, 2019 Super User Posted May 30, 2019 I have a waterproof 3650 box I will use to carry lures if I am bank fishing and walking. Quote

Fried Lemons Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 I used to wear a backpack with two planos and at least two rods. Over time I realized I don't use 90% of what I pack and putting down/picking up extra rods really slows me down. Now I wear a small sling that holds a few bags of plastics and hooks or a few swimbaits and some accessories and never bring more than one rod. If I'm wading I will bring a single bag of plastics in my pocket so I can dunk myself without worry. Quote
boostr Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Trying to lighten up myself. Went from a Spiderwire backpack to a Spiderwire sling pack. Got rid of stuff I don't really use, and carry 2 rods a casting and a spinning. the Sling pack is still a little heavy so I might have to lighten her up some more. Quote
