I am starting to see a few companies in Alabama carrying a brand called FX Custom Rods. Any experience with these rod? How are they?

Saw them at the New England Fishing Expo up here in Massachusetts. If I remember correctly they were run by a retired veteran (don't quote me on that) and he was a very nice guy. Gave my dad and I some great information on the company, they just picked up some pros over the past 1-2 years actually. The rods were very light and if I had to guess, probably pretty sensitive. They weren't very fancy or anything, a plain blank and no crazy colors or anything. Some rods used WINN grips and others were cork (all split grip)... the rods in their line up are very technique specific (for example they had a 6'3" MH/F casting rod meant for skipping). I did enjoy the rods and i was very tempted to buy one, but I couldn't stand the 2 piece reel seat. Otherwise they felt great and were extremely light and comfortable to hold. Check out their website if you haven't yet (they do custom rods as well).

Thanks buddy! They have me intrigued. I wish I could hold them in hand.

No problem... I definitely liked how they felt and they were really light, but the model I would've got came with the 2 piece reel seat and I just can't stand that reel seat. Some their other models have a Fuji ECS reel seat which I would've been fine with. They will for sure be in my mind when I'm looking for my next set up (although the Kistler I just got may have made me a loyal customer...)

I'd like to see what the 2 pieces reel seat looks like? Also, why you can't stand it ?

Just wondering and trying to educate myself here !

It's pretty much just the trigger part of a real seat without anything going below your reel. I personally hate the feeling of them, they just don't feel durable or stable. If you want an example look up an Abu Garcia Vendetta or Bass Pro Johnny Morris Patriot series rod (I would've bought this rod if it wasn't for the reel seat).

I've got 2 buddies on their pro staff.  I can play with them and see what they're all about.

That would be great if you could add your thoughts on them in this thread, I'm very interested in how they perform on the water.

They have been around for awhile. However, they were not marketing to the bass guys it was more crappie, walleye, trout, etc. They were making custom builds for bass. About a year or so ago they added the bass line of readily available rods. I have not actually used or held one just know a little about the company because their walleye series rods are HUGE in my neck of the woods.
