wordty Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 I am a fan of Big Game...but regardless of your brand of choice, what COLOR of line (clear, green, etc) do you use in mono (if you use mono) for the following: 1- topwaters such as spooks, pop’r, torpedo 2- spinnerbait / chatterbait rod (I use one rod for both) 3- crankbaits (less than 8-10 feet) I am in Louisiana so it is not clear water....usually stained ......I really hope to get a reply from “Tom” who loves Big Game! Super User WRB Posted May 27, 2019 Super User Posted May 27, 2019 The only consideration for me is my ability to see the line movements. Green water green blends in so well I can't see it same with clear line on clear water so I green on clear water and clear on green water. Tom 2 1 Quote
wordty Posted May 27, 2019 Author Posted May 27, 2019 Thanks Tom! So it is not as much about “what the fish CAN or CANT see” as much as it is about what I CAN SEE I guess 1 Quote

Water clarity & sky conditions will at times cause me to change. I almost never use clear & is one reason I dislike fluorocarbon. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted May 27, 2019 Super User Posted May 27, 2019 I use green whenever I use mono. Quote
Hulkster Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Green. I like Sufix siege mono which comes in a really cool smoke green colour. Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 I have a system so I can differentiate what line is on what reel. All mono is Green, Fluoro is clear, braid intended to use a leader pink or white and straight braid green. That way when I look down I can see exactly what reel I need. Quote
BoatSquirrel Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Maxima makes excellent mono. It runs heavy so go with the next lightest size. I run 12lb green for squarebills and buzzbaits. Quote
Todd2 Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Clear or clear blue..green blends in around here. Quote
redmeansdistortion Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Fellow Big Game fan here. I like the clear for general use, never any complaints. For steelhead/salmon float fishing, I like to use the solar collector color so I can see my line as it makes its way down stream. Quote
Fishingmickey Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 I've been a long time fan of 14# Berkley XL in clear blue fluorescent. Amazing at night under a black light. I've used both the clear and green too. It seem like Berkley might be phasing out the clear blue fluorescent though. FM Quote

Shimano_1 Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 I dont use mono on anything I need to see the line for. If I did I'd probably have a different opinion. I use clear mostly but will use dark green if I cant find clear. Have never noticed any difference in performance or amount of fish caught. Quote
