BPT is going back to Table Rock next week!

I heard this morning that Stage 7 on Grand Lake, has been switched back to Table Rock! A media company with a direct line to the higher ups at MLF, said he spoke to them Wed evening and received the news. How does everyone think that will turn out, now that everyone has reviewed the tapes, and know where everyone was fishing! Granted.... success only comes if one happens to pick the right place to start. With the format of counting every fish, the starting spot is the only real choice the anglers are given, as they cannot afford to quit and move much, to correct a wrong decision.  I think they should change to a 10 fish, combined weight, and give the anglers more time to correct what they are doing, and fish for bigger fish.

I'm guessing you haven't watched any of the of the coverage. If you think guys pick a starting spot and milk it all day, you are mistaken. Most guys fished a shad spawn in the morning and moved to another pattern as the day progressed. There have also been several guys everyday who struggled in the morning and made a run during the 3rd period to advance to the next day. To simplify an 8 hour day of fishing to a starting spot is quite misleading and flat out wrong.

 

As far as them going back to Table Rock, I have no idea. They are still advertising Grand on their website but with all the recent rains and flooding I wouldn't be shocked if they moved the event. BASS just postponed an OK event last week.

I did not intend to mislead anyone ... by "starting spot" I am meaning an area that has all of the patterns closely available, they will need for the duration of the day. Moving to a different creek arm, may be a 30 to 60 minute run. All I am saying, is that a great bass fisherman makes multiple decisions throughout the day, and this format really limits those decisions, because they would get to far behind. IMO ...a limit on the amount of fish, would be better for the fisherman

i think what would be cool is if they did a 5 biggest for this event since it'll be on the same lake. i watched mark daniels jr's vlog on table rock, and hearing him talking about staying out of the bed fish trap. might be nice to shake things up some.

I understand what you're saying, I don't agree though. These guys have 2 days to make it into the top 20 out of 40 during the first round and they've had 2 practice days prior to that. Some guys have had terrible first days to go on and figure it out on the 2nd day and make the top 20, plenty of time for decision making and changing things up.

 

If they advance out of the first round they start over at 0, this means the guy that squeaks into the cut in 20th place has the same odds as the guy who finished 1st. If anything it gives them more chances to make decisions and change things up since they aren't working from a deficit.

 

On the final day it would be hard to win if they don't start out well and someone else does, but at that point they should pretty well know what they're doing as they've already been on the lake for 5 days.

 

In 5 fish tournaments often times the guys below about 5th place have no chance to win as they're already too far behind, in this format everyone starts at zero so it's wide open for anyone to win.

They did say that the times the event is held will be different. Looks like noon to 8 for the first two rounds and 10-6 for the championship.

It's not that I don't like them, it's that some of their "antics" keep me watching closely, as I am definitely on the fisherman side, for any tournament trail. I applaud them for wanting to protect the resource, and bring more awareness to the sport. Asking questions regarding some of their comments, policies and decisions, should only bring more awareness, and help promotion. Mandating their anglers to NOT participate with their personal sponsors, at one of the industries largest venues, seems to go against spreading the sport and bringing awareness.
