wasabi_VA Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 I'm getting a Garmin Striker and plan to puddy-mount the transducer inside my Pelican Catch 100 hull. Probably use one of those nifty Hobie thru-hull thingies to handle the wires. I don't see any optional mounting accessories at the Garmin website. Any third party mounts I should know about? I believe the best location for me is mounted forward, up past my feet, against a wall of the upper hull where my ballcap is in the picture. I think having it on one of my accessory rails that are closer to me will be in my way. But as I type that, I guess mounting it out of the way will make it harder to use the controls. Hmmm... Suggestions on hardware? Quote
Dens228 Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 I'd put it inside, just in front of the hatch, then mount the battery behind it, also in the hatch. Run the wires through the inside wall that is facing you, an inch or so down from the top edge, run them to the Garmin on the track mount. Quote
wasabi_VA Posted May 23, 2019 Author Posted May 23, 2019 After sitting in my kayak I can tell i won't be able to reach the controls very easily. Thinking I'll need something like a RAM mount on one of my closer assy rails. Quote
Dens228 Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 I use a Ram mount with the longer tube to mount mine on my Atak. Quote
wasabi_VA Posted May 24, 2019 Author Posted May 24, 2019 OK. I am going with a RAM mount. Now I need to know where to buy the heavy duty velcro folks use to hold the battery in the waterproof box and to secure the box to the hull Quote

Somd Fx4 Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 depending on the model of striker (with clearvu) the transducer needs to be in the water. I use a ram mount to mount the head unit and a scotty products arm to hold the transducer in the water. this set up has worked on two different kayaks from me. Quote
wasabi_VA Posted May 24, 2019 Author Posted May 24, 2019 I am planning to do the plumber putty mount in the kayak hull. Is this a common thing that the Striker ClearVu doesn't work that way? Quote

gnappi Posted May 25, 2019 Posted May 25, 2019 I use RAM mounts on so many things I never dreamed I'd want to mount. From phones to GPS, dash cams, to GoPro, there's a RAM mount for most anything to be mounted most everywhere. Maybe heavier stuff would be better suited for another mount, but I haven't found that stuff yet. Quote

That particular model transducer has to be in the water. Even the chrip wouldn't read correctly. Quote

Was this possibly just your install or have you seen other kayak people reporting the same results? Quote

So I bought the arm and worked flawlessly ever since. Quote
wasabi_VA Posted May 29, 2019 Author Posted May 29, 2019 I ordered a bunch of stuff to do this and get it all mounted and it's all ready to go. Guess I'll take it back to where I bought it and start over. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 29, 2019 Super User Posted May 29, 2019 Just order a Screwball, RAM graph mount, and deployment arm from Yakattack. I put my battery in a small drybag. No need to make it too complicated. Quote
Grimmy1123 Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 Does it matter which direction transducer points? Towards front or back? Quote
