Hi all,

I am playing around with a different braid ideas for my heavy Jig combo, where I have been running pure 16# Sunline Sniper so far. In order to get a bit more line capacity on the reel (new Morethan) I am looking into different braid options. I am still planning to run a 16/18 # fluro leader.

Looking for a braid that casts very well (the Morethan is a casting machine and I can easily unspool it when spooled with 16# FC), is sensitive and does not bleed that bad.

Considerations so far:

* Power Pro Super8Slick V2 Braided Line Onyx

* Daiwa J-Braid Grand 8X Braided Line Gray Light

* Suffix 832

What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
Seb.

I've used all 3. Sufix 832 is the best out if them but they are all good braids with different qualities.

50lb sunline fx2. Best braid I've used. I've cashed more tournament checks with this line and a 3/4oz jig than anything else...by far.

Theyre all really good... they all faded about the same from what I recall,  I would be inclined to say the JBraid faded a bit quicker of the 3.  Just use the line conditioner & they’ll hold color a bit better.

The suffix is a bit stiffer than the Jbraid and PP- Some people may like that on a bait caster a little better.  Honestly too lazy to look- but I believe the suffix ran thicker diameter for the pound test than the other two; Which may make the others seem to be more “limp” if that makes sense. Folks always raved about the Daiwa samurai being so limp back in the day. It was also thinner when comparing the lb test on the box...So naturally it was more supple.

How are you having line capacity issues with the morethan PE 1000? I'm running straight 20# Sunline FC Sniper on my morethan and I can bomb cast jigs farther than I care for with plenty of line left over on the spool... I'm legit confused... Did you swap in a different spool?

Sufix 832 braid for me as well. I absolutely hate Sunline FX2. Have had way too many break off issues with 50# FX2 which I've never experienced with the 832. Maybe I just got a bad FX2 spool. Also, the FX2 is so loud through the guides it's unpleasant for me. I just don't see any benefit to FX2 over the 832.

You need to compare line diameter, Suffix 50 is significantly larger diameter (.014D) then 16# FC (.013D). Look at 30 lb braids; Fins WindTamer 30# (.011D), 40# (.012D).

I am not sure if we have the same reel. I have the Morethan PE TW. When fully spooled with 16# and I bomb cast a 1oz jig, I can easily unspool the reel (which is roughly 170-180 feet).

I probably will try Suffic 832 in 30pound test with the FG knot and a 5 foot leader.

Of what you mentioned 832

I would add Fins and Gamma to the list....

I'm pretty sure we have the exact same reel. It's the 19 morethan with 8.6 gear ratio right? I don't remember the length numbers off the top of my head for mine with 20# but 180ft seems low for a fully spooled morethan with 16# sniper... Do you fill the line right up to the bevel?

My braid to leader on my other setup I do Sufix 832 30# with 15# blue label fluoro leader in FG knot and never any issues. But for heavy cover I’ll do 50# braid no leader.

Heavy jig, Heavy cover, minimum 50# braid. 3/4 oz -1/5 oz jig weight. probably go 65# for flipping and if it is super thick and gnarly maybe even 80#. Light cover lighter jigs 1/4 oz - 1/2 oz, 30-50# braid.  I'd fish it straight braid either set up.

I'm happy with 40lb Power Pro Spectra and tie to either 14 or 16lb FC Sniper.

You only have 60 yards of line on your reel?

I just spooled the reel with 30# suffix to almost to the top. 186feet. Curious to hear how you are getting so much more line on yours.

There's no way it only holds that much 30# Sufix braid. I would think it would hold at least 150 yards.

Well, my line counter would disagree...

That could always be the case, but it kind of matches my other observations.
