I recently purchased a No.*** elite rod, at Gander Outdoors, that is a 7' medium to pair with my Daiwa Aird 100HA (this reel was purchased with the intention of being a crankbait reel). I had seen this rod in the store a couple of times and knew that it would make a great rod for that Aird reel, but it didn't even have a price tag on it so I never pulled the trigger on it. The last time I went into the store it was marked $50 off so I wound up snagging it for around $69. I was wondering if anyone knew the story on this rod as there isn't a lot of information on it as well as wondering what suggestions anyone had for techniques to use with this new combo. For reference, the reel is a 6.3:1 and the lure rating on the rod 1/4-5/8

I didn't realize No. 8 was still around. Its a subsidiary of 13 Fishing. They had a lot of issues with breakage to the point 13 rebranded them as ***. It looks to me like its a Gander Outdoors house brand rod. They used to sell the Gander Mountain GMX Elite rod that was essential a 13 Omen Black blank with different components.  If it is anything like the old Elite that was sold through Gander it is a great rod for the price. I also looked up No. 8 and they haven't update their site in years. This leads me to believe that No. 8 will be Gander's house brand name now. $119 was even the price of the GMX Elite before Gander went under.

Thank you for the information on the No.8 brand. I was able to get out and use this combo some yesterday with no success but I have a feeling I will be doing some playing around to find what technique fits this combo the best but I have a feeling that if it stays put together it will become my topwater combo as we don't really have much vegetation in the lakes I fish.

I also just realized that now this rod is listed on the gander website and is listed as a 13 fishing elite rod but in the photos it still has the no.8 branding
