Joshua Vandamm Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Anyone else make their own chatterbaits with shakee blades and jigs and/or spinnerbaits? ive discovered cheap spinnerbaits make amazing chatters. I Just cut the wire down to about an inch, put it straight through the blade and finish off with a 5x haywire twist. Jigs, I use a split ring. Slightly less effective but works fairly well still. Next I might try on 4” storm wild eyes... 3 Quote
Fishingchucknj Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 I’ve never tried using spinnerbaits as chatterbaits, but it definitely looks interesting. I’ve build a bunch buying the components and assembling them. They work well enough and are cheap to put together. I fish a lot of swift rocky water and I don’t mind if I lose a few per day. 1 Quote
Joshua Vandamm Posted May 21, 2019 Author Posted May 21, 2019 Spinnerbaits work really well surprisingly. I get 30% or so more bites with the blade stuck out an inch or two ahead. 1 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted May 22, 2019 Super User Posted May 22, 2019 The spinnerbait idea is great! I would love to try out some really small 1/8oz chatterbaits but the Z-man ones are mostly garbage and I’ve never found anyone else who makes them that small. Starting with a tiny spinnerbait seems like a super easy way to give them a try. 1 Quote

The only thing is I have not tried to find any snap swivels small enough. the nearest gas station to my current location Allen 1 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted May 22, 2019 Super User Posted May 22, 2019 Those look amazing, I would love a couple! Thanks. I have been buying up a few different types of tiny snaps to use on my UL casting combo and wanna say I came across some very small snap swivels from one of the jdm brands? Decoy maybe? I will root around ebay tomorrow and see if I can find them again. Quote

What blade do you prefer? Thank for sharing this. A-Jay 1 Quote

So far the hexagonal “shakee” blades with bubbler holes from jans Netcraft were marginally better than an eBay 50 pk. The lighter the blade the better. They all work tho. 4 hours ago, A-Jay said: Nice. I am definitely going to try this. I have plenty of retired spinnerbaits I'd like to re purpose. What blade do you prefer? Thank for sharing this. A-Jay Very versatile ...I was surprised this one actually works well. Finally found a use for the 4” storms. LOL 3 1 Quote
