I’ve worn out my search engines trying to find a consensus, so I figured I would start a new conversation. This summer has been dedicated to learning to use the lures that everyone Uses but I never have. So, what hook/setup does everyone use for the Super Fluke and Super Fluke Jr? I’m intending on going weightless, but totally open to options. Again: I have read through the previous posts that I could find, but it seemed like there was never a clear answer. Sorry if this is redundant!

Thanks in advance!

I use a 1/0 or 2/0 EWG offset worm hook, same as what one might use for any other Texas rigged plastic.  I usually "Texpose" them, as I am mostly working them on top where it's relatively clear of vegetation.  I don't weight mine often, and if I do, it's only a 1/32 or 1/16 oz Water Gremlin Bull Shot sinker right against the hook eye.  I want to be able to work the bait slowly if I have to, and still keep it on or near the top.  I don't use anything larger than a 2/0 hook; I think anything larger impedes the bait's movement too much.

I have 'nose hooked' them before with an octopus style hook.  It gives them more action, but the hookup ratio suffers.

Flukes catch a lot of fish.  For me, they are a good bait for catching numbers, but none of my largest fish have come off of a Fluke.

I prefer a 2/0 for the super fluke. I don't often fish the junior. Standard EWG, typically on mono, as braid and flouro seem to affect the lure's movement to me. I do like to use either the junior or the swimmer modal as a trailer for chatterbaits, swimjigs and spinnerbaits.

I use a light wire 4/0 offset EWG.

I often add a small barrel swivel 12" before the bait to get it to run a couple feet down

Just caught my PB this weekend while fishing a fluke for the very first time.  I had mine rigged texposed with a 3/0 EWG.  15 lb braid to 12 lb fluoro leader since there was cover everywhere.  Caught my 6 lber on the 2nd cast of the day and two 3 lbers in the next 10 minutes or so.  This bait has immediately become one of my confidence baits.

Mine go out on spinning gear, 8lb mono to tiny swivel, 18” of same mono line to 4/0 EWG in the super fluke.

With the super fluke I rig it texposed on a 4/0 ewg hook.

I use a fine wire hook if I want to keep it on top.

I will use a heavy wire hook in the same size if I want to go a little deeper.

If I want to get down below 10ft.  I will use a weighted swimbait hook. Caught my personal best last summer doing this.

I use a 7ft. 3in. medium action baitcaster with 12lb copoly.  I will bump up to a medium/heavy baitcastee  with 15 lb copoly in heavy cover.

I only use the super fluke jr on a drop shot or carolina rig.

Thanks so much for all of the replies. So surprising that there is so much variation in hook size, but maybe I’ll just grab a few and see what works for me. Was hoping for more of a consensus, ha!

I fish a super fluke with a 3/0 EWG hook texposed. As the fluke gets more torn up I will turn the fluke on an angle. Maybe 30 degrees off center and texpose the hook that way. It gives the fluke a different action than running the hook straight.

4/0 or 5/0 Gama skip gap hook work well for me. If I’m using lighter spinning gear I’ll use owner 4/0 J light hooks.

I use the super fluke with a 3/0 wide gap gamakatsu. I t-rig them and go weightless. Ive used a 2/0 but I don’t hook near as many with it. The smaller “fluke” works better with the 2/0. I don’t catch as many with the fluke jr. , so I don’t use them much.

( There is a difference between all 3 in size and action .) There is actually an even smaller fluke I’ve been seeing in the store but I haven’t tried them.

I have used them for nearly 20 years and I have probably caught the most fish on them since then of any bait I’ve used.( mostly using the super fluke) I’ve caught a bunch of 4-6 pounders on them, with the biggest being 8 pounds.

Always nail weighted on a 4/0 skip gap hook about a foot below a swivel.

4/0 ewg for me. Sometimes nose hook them with a cps spring the way the bassresource guys do it, pretty cool way to fish a fluke

Flukes are one of my most used plastics and I have never settled on a single hook.  I use 3/0 hooks, but will  use EWGs, offset round bend, screw lock, and occasionally straight shanks.

I vary them up depending on the cover I am fishing, how I want them to sink, and how hard the bass are grabbing them.

3/0 to 5/0 EGW Gama depending on the depth I want to fish. 2/0 EGW on the Jr.
