I'm trying really hard to imagine how a knot results from that pic above, and how line of that spool in the pic later in the thread gets like the line in the original pic.  What the heck are you doing?

Exactly! Nobody has had any issues with Smackdown, not saying it can't happen but it's very rare. Been using 50 lb Smackdown and absolutely love it. NO issues. That line looks like it is months old and caught in the trolling motor a couple times.

Just bought some Seaguar Smackdown and I've been using it on my new rig. I've encountered an issue that I wanted to let you guys know about so you don't smack your money down on this stuff.

In the picture I took is the problem. The braid separates and just becomes a mess. It doesn't cut very well either. Hopefully I can get my money back for this trash. This is the second time I've had issues with Seaguar line. Guess I'm going back to Power Pro.

Can you give me the name of that knot? Does it go through guides easy?

I believe the OP is or was tying a Uni knot. It is my primary knot so I think I am recognizing it correctly.

If I tie my terminal tackle on to straight braid, after I form my the knot, with braid I have to pull it down to form the knot . . . slowly. Braid of any sort doesn't hold form all that well being so loose, so by pulling the main line from both ends and the tag end, it sort of gets pulled back into the proper barrel rolls "look."

With mono or fluoro, I can just pull away to set the knot, slide it up tight. Not so with braid, at least not to the same degree.

I have seen messes like this with braid and a uni knot. Made one or two myself!!! Mea culpa.

What I see on the braid, itself, is what appears to be a very loose braidings. Weird. It sure looks good on the spool, looks like a totally different line in the user's photo.

What could account for loose or elongated braidings way up the line, well away from any area sensitive to fraying.

Very intersting. TW will solve the issue, but we likely will never know the 'why' behind it.

I've had some braids get caught on dry skin on my fingers and pull apart like that when handling it.  None of them were Smackdown but hat's definitely a thing that can happen.

Exactly. And I know how to tie knots. I took that picture to show what was happening to the line while I was tying a knot.

You must have gotten a bad spool. It’s no way it should have turned colors that fast. Did you contact Seaguar?

I found a lake a couple years ago that was very alkaline. If I used braid (Sufix) it turned out similar to the picture above. I don't know whether that is the case here, or whether Smackdown would react the same way, but it's food for thought.  jj

After looking carefully at it. It doesn't appear to have turned colors, I believe it's the bad lighting in the background that makes it look that way. The braid is offered in the Stealth Gray color and is phenomenal braid. I would like to know how the OP used the braid. We have many other members with no issues whatsoever.

I tried smackdown and the problem I ran into is that it breaks off really easily. I had problems literally casting baits off. Never encountered that before on any other lines.

May I ask if you would mind providing some details, i.e. line test, lure weight, ect..?  I've thrown 8" Hudd's on 40 lb Samurai in the past, never has any issues. I'm thinking of trying the smackdown braid, that's why I ask.

Get a higher pound test than you use in other lines cause smackdown is a bit overrated. 30# Smackdown isnt any stronger than 20# power pro,832,gamma for example. Ive had instances where 30# broke rather easily trying to free snags.

I had tis happen with 30 lb.  Kanzen. Cast off a few lures and then broke off a good fish on a hookset. That is my first and last seagar line  purchase.

Kanzen is worse than smackdown. Had 15 pound kanzen that wouldnt hold a knot passed 9-10 pounds, very weak. My 8# Nanofil with same knot holds to 12 pounds.

About customer service good luck with them tried numerous times they never contacted me back.

Wow! Looks like a picture of a piece of binder twine.

Yup.  My first thought.  Think the OP made a mistake and grabbed a spool of baling twine instead of braid.  :D

I've been using 50# Kanzen for frog/toad fishing for years without any issues at all.  I don't know what knot you're using, but I tie the uni-knot and never had it slip.

Never had Kanzen break on me, so I don't know what to tell you there.

Hopefully this satisfies all you people who are having a hard time believing my post.

Great close up photo and you are right the color is similar to your 1st post.

Braid can be hard to cut because it's high strength and flattens between scissor blades requiring specific cutting tools.

Hope you get the problem resolved.
