finatic Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Just bought some Seaguar Smackdown and I've been using it on my new rig. I've encountered an issue that I wanted to let you guys know about so you don't smack your money down on this stuff. In the picture I took is the problem. The braid separates and just becomes a mess. It doesn't cut very well either. Hopefully I can get my money back for this trash. This is the second time I've had issues with Seaguar line. Guess I'm going back to Power Pro. Quote
jbrew73 Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 I’ve never used seaguar so I can’t comment on it but PowerPro has never let me down. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted May 20, 2019 Super User Posted May 20, 2019 What are we looking at? Was it used? Or out of package defective? If used, under what conditions, and for how long. I dont mind negative reviews, but I dismiss them if not fairly comprehensive. I've read a lot of recommendations for that line, so more info would be better for your campaign 2 Quote
finatic Posted May 20, 2019 Author Posted May 20, 2019 Whenever I handle the line it just comes apart like you see in the photo. So if I’m trying to tie a Uni not like I was in that picture The line pulls apart. This is brand new line that I ordered from tackle warehouse. Been using it a few days and it keeps doing the same thing. Quote
Gorris317 Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Never had an issue with Power Pro or 832. The only Seaguar I use is InvizX and love the stuff. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 20, 2019 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 20, 2019 That doesn't look like Seaguar braid. None of their braid is that color, nor looks like that (where you can see the individual strands). Quote

Color looks like TUF-Line, Smackdown is gray color. Tom 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 20, 2019 Super User Posted May 20, 2019 Is that supposed to be grey? Man, that doesn't look the Smackdown I've used. Quote
finatic Posted May 20, 2019 Author Posted May 20, 2019 This is Seaguar SmackDown the gray braid I just got it from tackle warehouse a couple days ago. I contacted Seaguar and they told me to get a hold of their customer support department. Tackle warehouse will of course refund my money. 1 Quote
BassNJake Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 I had a bad spool of SpiderWire stealth that did that. Quote

Sorry you didn't get to experience the line the way it's supposed to be. Quote

I wonder if someone ordered smackdown and returned it to TW with the spool full of used braid to scam TW. I heard of a guy opening a Shimano Stradic only to find that it was some similar colored $30 Chinease reel with a Stradic spool fitted to it. The assumption was that someone ordered the Stradic, took the reel out of the box and replaced it with the cheap reel and spool before returning it. Another buyer then received the box when the seller returned the reel to inventory. What, tackle warehouse turn into Amazon? Oh no ? Quote
LonnieP Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 That’s definitely not Smackdown. I’m sure TW will make things right. Quote

Looks like someone probably took advantage of them. It's possible Seaguar had a small run of defective braid. I'd have to see more pictures to know for sure though. The braid looks like it's been used for months. How many trips was it used on? In what application? Seaguar Smackdown does make a stealth gray braid, however, I can't tell through the picture of it is. I've been using smackdown and it's phenomenal line. Quote
finatic Posted May 21, 2019 Author Posted May 21, 2019 This is brand new braid. It is Seaguar Smackdown Stealth Gray Braid, check the photos below. Hopefully this satisfies all you people who are having a hard time believing my post. Quote
michaelsrex Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 I also have the smackdown 40lb on all my casting setups. I've never had an issue. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 21, 2019 Global Moderator Posted May 21, 2019 Mass produced items, bound to have a bad one eventually. I've used the stuff on several reels from 10 to 50 pound test and haven't had any of those issues. It's weird because that line looks flat, reminds me a lot of the Sufix NanoBraid in Aqua Camo I have on my dropshot rod. 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted May 21, 2019 Super User Posted May 21, 2019 I'm not gonna say you are lying about the braid, but that is one awful looking knot. 2 1 Quote
Stephen B Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 I am leaning toward possible user error now. The line appears to be 100% authentic. I'd be interested if another person would have issues with the remaining line on the spool. User error or minor manufacturing issue. Quote
Yumeya Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Looks like user error to me or you are asking to much from that braid, if you are running it though cover then use a leader to prevent your braid from fraying. It doesn't cut easy because, well its braid. Use braid specific scissors and burn the end with a lighter. Quote
d-camarena Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 User error? Im not an expert tying knots but braid should not do this. I use pp only and have never had this problem. Probably a bad batch. Edit. I had not payed attention to the knot. I think that is the problem here. You are damaging the line with that knot. And scissors gotta be sharp too 1 Quote
RichF Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 I've had some braids get caught on dry skin on my fingers and pull apart like that when handling it. None of them were Smackdown but hat's definitely a thing that can happen. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 21, 2019 Super User Posted May 21, 2019 I'm trying really hard to imagine how a knot results from that pic above, and how line of that spool in the pic later in the thread gets like the line in the original pic. What the heck are you doing? 1 1 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Wow! Looks like a picture of a piece of binder twine. 1 Quote
