OnthePotomac Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Love that Elmer's Golden Oak on cork and I sanded mine after with 220 grit. I found the best way to sand was to put the rod on an open back chair with the handle to the front, then it on it and sand it with 220 strips as if you were shining a shoe between your legs. It does not take a lot of sanding and gives you good control. 1 Quote

Super User fishwizzard Posted May 21, 2019 Super User Posted May 21, 2019 I have a rod where the filler is falling out in places. I had coated it with U40, but having definitely gone too thick with it before, I think I went too light of an application on this specific rod. I assume I should sand what ever U40 that is on there off before I try and fill the gaps? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 22, 2019 Super User Posted May 22, 2019 You're going to sand any way, so it probably isn't necessary. Quote

thunderblack Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 A magic eraser will take U40 off if you want to apply a new coat. I bought a nrx before with a really crappy U40 job and it worked well for me. Quote
GeekOutdoors Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 FYI Probond is exterior grade vs standard Elmer's Quote
