The reason B.A.S.S. didn't come to the west coast was because west coast anglers didn't support their venues, live weigh ins or sponsors booths plus local towns didn't pay to have them. MLF on the other hand doesn't rely on live audience participation it's all about TV revenue for the sponsors. MLF can hold events anywhere coast to coast making it fair wherever the contestant reside.

Is it a rule or agreement? evidently not. The west has a lot of bass anglers that will turn off MLF if all the events stay east.

Tom

Tom, I believe @jbsoonerfan is not questioning what you are saying, rather asking whether that information is something that MLF made public or is an accumulation of bits & pieces over the past years.

For example, the early versions of the MLF website had a page of "Who we are".  On that page, it stated that MLF was started to complement the Elite & FLW tours, not replace them and the idea was to hold MLF tournaments at times that didn't interfer with anglers ability to fish those other tours.  Looking at that now, we know that Boyd Duckett was either lying when he had that printed or he changed his mind when given the opportunity (sponsor money).  Either way, it shows he really isn't a man of his word, which is ironic being that so many anglers trusted him when they changed tours.  If BPT ends up in the tank in the next few years, I would expect alot of folks having no shortage of negative words about Duckett.

I usually do not read the tournament section of this forum but I am glad I did this time since I got a couple of good laughs.

My point is that I'd rather watch a Pro go out and hunt down the big girls than watch a bunch of yahoos catch as many dinks as they can. I have much more respect for the guy who comes in with five that are 4#+ than the guy who catches twenty 1#-2#ers. We have people here (amateurs) who've logged 30-40-50 fish days...so the 'dink fest' that MLF is doesn't impress me at all.

I agree. I have had several +50 bass days and several +20 pound 5 fish limits, from the bank in public waters. Many members here have done the same and many of us could care less for tournament bass fishing.

We've all had days like that but have any of us been able to do it in the same way and conditions that they do?

I bet there are forums for dirt track guys who have those driver who think they could drive in Nascar as well. Same thing here, a lot of guys "think" they could do something when in reality they simply can't. I would guess this is true with most hobby type sports and forums, they could be pros, they just choose not to be.

One thing MLF does is force guys into finding patterns. Yeah they are patterns of smaller fish, but someone like me, I would probably catch 5 fish, where a pro will catch 50, because they know where to throw what baits. They figure out the patterns and fish them. Sometimes it takes someone a day or two to really figure out a pattern for a lake and they come on strong at the end, or the fast starters that burn out on day 3 because the pattern changed and they are struggling to find it again.

I just started watching pro fishing this year and usually follow it on my phone, so scoretracker is pretty cool.

That was very interesting to hear.

I went and watched the show that started all of this and cannot believe that this caused an uproar with the heads at MLF.

Some very different opinions but nothing to go behind someones back to get them reprimanded at work for.

I’ve had that happen to me before so that really hit home. Luckily my bosses are cool and had my back like his did. Kind of sounds like MLF is trying to squash out criticism instead of listening and learning

Yep, but I don't care what they catch as long as I can figure out what they are throwing.

I get up close to the TV and try to see their baits, which sometimes are not shown.

Pros who are regularly in the money aren't there because they are good at catching big bass, but because they are good at catching bass.  Catch a lot, and you have more opportunities to weigh in your 5 biggest and make it count.  Except for tourneys where they are sight fishing, I doubt the pros are deliberately fishing for big fish.  I suppose the newer electronics might allow them to target bigger fish but I'm still willing to bet the BASSers and FLWers are still trying to catch as many fish as they can.  We just don't see most of them.

Well, that certainly clears it up.

You're welcome!

Seriously, we've all had good days on the water.  But there's a reason locals rarely win pro tournaments.  The pros catch fish in all types of water, under all kinds of conditions, day in and day out, whether they have fished the body of water or not.

The first day of the Classic was a great example of the difference between the two scoring systems.  If my memory is correct Ott didn't catch his limit until around 1:00PM.  Dean Rojas culled something like 15 fish.  Ott's first day weight was 20lbs,  Dean's was 9lbs.

So the BPT winners last season in order were:

Jordan Lee

Edwin Evers

Jacob Powroznik

Andy Morgan

Dean Rojas

Aaron Martens

Jacob Wheeler

Cliff Pace

Championship Tournament (Redcrest) - Edwin Evers

Angler of the Year - Edwin Evers

You've got past AOY winners, multiple Classic winners and multiple tour level winners. Being a good fisherman is being a good fisherman, no matter the format.

I must need my second cup of coffee.....but it just seems to boil down to we get cranky when everyone doesn't agree with what we like or don't like....

Darn.....guess I'll go tell the neighbor to only mow his lawn on Tuesdays due to what Fred says down in Florida.  Then I'll tell Sue girls can't enjoy watching fishing shows cause guys will be seen catching little fish.

Hmmmmm......just a thought.

And guess I'm in the wrong cause I LOVE it all....and enjoy an respect what you like as long as it's legal and respecting.

BPT and MLF air at 7am Saturdays on Discovery.  If you don't get the outdoor channel, the only other mainstream station that ever shows fishing is ESPN 2 (Bassmaters Elites).  Those shows also air at crazy early times. Honestly, you're better off watching on youtube.
