Hey all, I am currently on a budget right now so I’m looking for the best spinning rod and reel combo for $60-80 which is cheap but I also believe even with the price you can still snag a quality combo. I currently am working with Lew’s American Hero Bait caster combo and I’ve caught my number of fish on it. I am looking to expand my rod and reel collection with different types. Mainly looking for a 1 piece, medium action.
Any suggestions for your best cheap rod and reel combo!? Feel free to share your experiences!

IMHO, you should look at store branded combo's in the price range you want.  Typically, you can get a good combo without paying for the name brand.

One good option is Pflueger President 6'6" Medium Combo with a size 30 reel for $80. The rod is ok, but you can upgrade that later. The reel is great and you can use it if you upgrade the rod in the future. I have 3 of the President reels and they are solid. They do offer a one piece rod with this combo, but I would actually recommend getting the 2 piece, so if you upgrade your rod in the future you can use the two piece rod to keep in the trunk of your car.

Good idea!

Bass Pro shops has their Pro Qualifier 2 combo on sale for $80 right now. They also have a 6'6" combo. They have a similar size reel to the Pflueger 30, but they call it a 20 size. Every manufacture has different sizing. (You can look at line capacity and weight to compare.)

Lew's Carbon Blue combo at Dick's Sporting Goods/Field and Stream is in your price range.

Shimano Sienna 2500FD reel, new off ebay and Shimano Sojurn med or med lt rod, ebay or Amazon.  Don't know if it's the best but they've worked fine for me for the past few years. Should be around $80, maybe less delivered

Hey all, thank you all for the helpful info. I’ve looked into about everything that was said and some combos that caught my eye was Lew’s Mach Combo, Lew’s carbon blue GT and the pflueger president. With all these being really in the same range does one have an edge over the other? Or maybe one I haven’t mentioned that’s also very good?

Plfueger...or Pfleuger, not sure of the spelling. But that's a good reel for the money and will last a long time.

Check Fisherman Factory Outlet.

Orra S Combo, or OrraSX reel with a Berkley or Veritas rod.  Sale right now is buy one, get one 50%

Okuma Safina Pro, Big5 has it for $50. The rod does not have an insanely long handle, very difficult to find these days. Medium action. The 35 reel is simply too good to be true - no any problem at all. For a $20 cheap reel, there is a lock nut like those in Daiwa, so the handle never lose up. Metal spool, again for a $20 reel, extremely even spooling, never seen with far more expensive reels. Never bird net, cast far. Cannot say enough good words about this reel, regardless of the $20 price.

See how evenly the spool is, 12# co-polymer line. This is after I fished today, was using very light lure for yellow perch. With other reels, the line will be more piled on the bottom side like a cone. See how full I spooled this reel, still no worry about bird nesting. No idea how this cheap reel is done so perfectly.

Showing in the picture is a Shakespeare Excursion rod. It has a normal handle length, 8" from the butt to the reel mount, compared to 11" of most rods and 1" shorter than the Safina Pro rod. IM6 graphite, medium action, sensitive enough for me to detect the lightest bites. When Walmart clearance them for $9, I bought 6, 3 of 6'6" and 3 of 7', no longer worry for the rest of my life how much longer and longer the stupid pro-driven manufacturers make the handles. These are the rods to get if you don't enjoy paying more. The new version no longer have a cork handle which is also 1" longer.

Excursion rod (old version) + Safina Pro reel, only $29 total, trouble free fishing, from panfish to bass and lingcod.

Another one to look at is the Mitchell 308 combo. The reel is a 2000 size and Walmart has them on 5'6" Light, 6' Medium, 6'6" Medium, or 7' Medium rods for $70. The 300 series has been around for decades and based on my old 320, is rock solid and will last a long time.

If you want a bit of a step-up - they have the 300-Pro (4000 size reel) combo with a 7' Medium rod on rollback for $62.
