I am 14 and a budget angler. I currently use spiderwire braid and  pline floroclear and I like both lines but I’m wondering if there’s better, affordable lines.

I like sufix siege. You can buy it in bulk (3000 yard spools) on amazon.

Thanks for the advice I’ll probably give it a try but I’m looking more for fluorocarbon and braid.

Check out Seaguar red lable. Around $12 for 200 yards.

Yup, even more in 12 and 15 lb test since they come in 1/4 lb spools. And Wally World (as well as many other places) carries it. I get 1/2 and 1 lb bulk spools, and go through one or two of a few lb tests yearly. I use it and original PP mostly, and don't have any reason to switch from either.

Mono - suffix elite $7-8

fluoro - seaguar red label ($10-12 at Walmart)

braid - original power pro (< $15 Walmart)

Can save a lot of money if you use backing. I recommend some type of cheap mono.

I have several spools of this line to try...based on recommendations of WRB (Tom)....but haven't used it enough to form an opinion.  They offer several lines of braid.  The Original PRT is on sale for $11.80.  Fins.  https://www.finsfishing.com/FINS-Original-PRT-p/fnsprt.htm

I've only tried 10# FloroClear.  It broke way too easy for me and I switched out the reel the very first day I used it.  There a lot of good mono/co-polymer lines at reasonable prices.  Some I like are Sufix Siege, McCoy Mean Green, Silver Thread AN40, Trilene Big Game and Izorline XXX.  TW has 1500 yards of 10# XXX for $16.99.

Walmart has 3000 yard spool of 10# AN40 on sale for $29.99.  You will have to pay tax, but it is free shipping to a store near you.  https://www.walmart.com/ip/Silver-Thread-AN40-Green-10-lb-Copolymer-Fishing-Line/51543059?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222227040952420&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=99523611977&wl4=aud-566049426705:pla-244705521857&wl5=9006935&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=51543059&wl13=&veh=sem&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgNSln4Cg4gIVyVmGCh0YYAAAEAQYBCABEgJEVfD_BwE

I have 3000 yd. spools of 8# and 12# AN40 sitting in my basement.

This. great line.

Berkely Big Game is another good cheap line but it sucks on spinning gear.

good for baitcasting though.

Go on down to Walmart and pick up some Big Game in 15# test like others have said. Good line for the price.

If you like braid, Power Pro at wally world is tough to beat

Posted

If you think about it long term, braid will be the cheapest option. You can use it pretty much forever and when you want some fresh braid you can just flip it over. The initial investment is a bit more (power pro is about $20 for a 150 yd spool, i think) but you can usually get backlashes out without damaging the line, unlike mono and fc, and you can add a leader so you are not cuting off 6" of line every time you retie.

For braid , Daiwa J braid 4x at walmart , under $10. I like it better than regular Power pro.

All good suggestions above.  Do yourself a favor and ditch the fluoroclear.  There have been countless threads on this forum about the poor quality control of that line.

Best bang for the buck is Big Game. I do prefer other lines in general (Ixor for mono, Sunline for Flouro, currently giving Sufix a run for the money) but I feel price wise Big Game is the industry leader, IMHO...

Another thumbs-up for Big Game. Also check out BPS Excel mono. 1 lb. spools for $26.99 (5000 yards of 10 lb.). I've been using it recently and I'm pleased with the results.
