Nicolas Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Does anyone have a recipe for making plastisol Not the colors the actual material Quote
BassNJake Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 My recipe is sending bait plastics money and they ship it to me. I go to tackleunderground and there are many guys pouring their own soft plastic lures but none that were making their own plastisol that I know of. There are a couple of distributors over there but I think they buy in bulk and repackage. Good luck!! Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 18, 2019 Super User Posted May 18, 2019 Barlows has plastisol both Do-It and MF in various formulas by the qt or gal. X-Sol plastisol on Amazon $50 gal. Tom PS, Nick Creme made his own. Quote

Then you'd need a facility in which to make it, I don't believe it is possible for just anyone to make from their home. 1 Quote

He also was learning basic chemistry along with instruction from the lead chemist who provided Crème with the chemicals in the first place. Even with that instruction and basic understanding of chemistry it still took over 6 months to get a working formulation. I'm just saying this because today you would need to have the right credentials to purchase the chemicals, so saying Nick Crème made his own is true but it isn't as simple as it sounds. 3 1 Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 There's not much need to when you can get a gallon for $25 or $30 or 5 gallons for $130. I use Dead On Plastix since BaitJunkys no longer sells it. I thought about trying the Polysol "BJ" formula but I've heard it is not the same as BaitJunkys, gets a lot of bubbles while microwaving. I heard thats what Dead On used to be until they changed and that is where Bait Junkys came from as well. But I also heard it bubbles a lot 1 Quote

But I also heard it bubbles a lot I've only been through 2 gallons of lurecraft and this is my first of the bait plastics, so I'm no expert. I have not noticed anymore bubbles than what I had with lurecraft. I have not noticed anything remarkably different either. However, my next gallon will be Dead On as I've read some good reviews on it. How's it working for you? Quote

This has helped me from having the 2 layers separate Quote

Dave A Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 Munkin is correct- you cannot wait tool long between pours or else you will get delams. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted November 29, 2019 Super User Posted November 29, 2019 Open pour laminates are tricky at best. You may want to keep some Mend It handy to repair some partial delaminations. Quote
Jp jr. Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 I have been working on pouring open pour swimbaits and found that pouring as soon as I can and that works fine and keeping temps as close as possible and about 335-340 deg. Quote
