Chatter Bait Technique

SO me and a bud are walking around a small local bait shop where this guy make great spinner baits, real quality stuff all using top notch hooks.  I'm sure even Glen would approve ... lol   Any how, I've been hearing a lot about chatter baits but not having any I by 2, one white and one black for obvious reasons.  

 

My question is fishing technique used when fishing a chatter bait..?

Looking at this lure I'm just having a hard time figuring out how it works and what about it make the fish strike it.

Do you bounce along the bottom, jig it, cast and retrieve it like a spinner..  Any input would be welcomed for this returning old fisherman to bass fishing.

In short, Yes and yes........you can bounce it along the bottom, straight retrieve, slow down-speed up.......etc. 

I tend to straight retrieve it while adding short pauses to let it drop a bit as well as speeding it up.

Yes works well is stained to muddy water and around grass or weeds.

 

You can add a variety of soft plastics as a trailer, no wrong choice really.

You can get really creative with it and do everything you mentioned. Shallow grass flats is were it really shines.

The Vibrating Jig is a very versatile bait.

Can be presented effectively a number of ways & places.

I'll present it deep like a jig, I'll swim it shallow like a swim jig or a spinnerbait, I'll bounce it off cover like a crankbait and even pitch it to and under docks.

 I say experiment a bit with them and you may be surprised with your results.

A majority of mine are caught with a slow, steady retrieve, just fast enough to get the blade "chattering".

It attracts fish with a ton of vibration.  It also has a hunting action.  They are very versatile.   It is my confidence bait as we have a lot of dirty water here.  It is also a big fish catcher for me.  The majority of my 6+ pound bass are on a Chatterbait.  .  

Try different trailers on it, you can change the way it reacts and it’s profile a lot.

It is kinda like a Ned rig, there is no wrong way to fish it. I fish it much like a spinnerbait. My favorite shallow water technique is to just reel it under the surface.

I was watching video from the Classic the other day and one of the pros was working docks with a chatterbait, using it like a jig.  I use chatterbaits a lot, but I would not have thought to pitch it in that situation....he was pulling fish....where I would have used a jig or a more traditional flipping plastic....sooo versatile
