Accurate scale under $100?

The Brecknell is very well respected and you could pick up a lip clip/grip to add to it that would still keep you under $100.

Will the lip clip throw off the accuracy of this scale or will it auto-tare the weight of the clip?

It will zero out and it's pretty much be the same setup the guys use on MLF. As long as it doesn't get left out in the rain or fall in the water you probably wouldn't need another scale for 10+ years.

Do you think the 55# model would be a little more dependable than the cheaper 22? I've just always been leery about buying the "cheapest model". Do you have one? If so, which one?

Member @Goose52 I believe did a very detailed study on the $5 luggage scales and how deadly accurate they are. I've been using them for a few years now and they're very accurate and very consistent. I add grippers to ever one I've used.

I have the 5 dollar luggage scale 

 Yesterday I purchased 6.40 lbs of pork steaks . The luggage scale weighed it at 6.45lbs . Thats pretty accurate considering the packaging adds some weight . Use a fish grip with it .

For me, that's a huge negative factor.  My gear gets wet.  Very wet.  All too often.  And I have limited options (or maybe more accurately,  limited time and patience) for prompt drying.  So, I usually choose either expensive, waterproof scales, tools, lights, etc, or less water tolerant 'disposable' tools.  For scales, this has meant a new $5-$7 scale every year.  A choice that has worked well for me thus far.

I have a Brecknell Scale.  It’s a very accurate impressive scale but it very clear that it was not designed for fishing.  It is not “heavy duty” and there are many reviews on Amazon from fishermen that share how splashes of water ruined there’s.   For these reasons, I keep mine stowed in it’s case.  It takes too long to retrieve it,  power it up,  zero it out,  and then weight the fish so it only gets used as a second opinion on large fish.

 

My favorite remains my Chatillon & Sons IN-12.  Accurate,  essentially un breakable,  no batteries,  will still be working 100 years after I’m gone.

Anything in my boat that requires a battery, (marine batteries excluded!) is usually dead when I need to use it, so the 25lb Rapala spring scale is perfect for me.  It has a marker that stops at the highest weight so you just hook the fish on, lift it out of the net, lower it back and the scale marks the weight.

It is accurate as I have weighed several things around the house to check it out. I needed a waterproof scale after losing two scales to moisture. The floating part is great for when I am fishing in my kayak.

Looks great, NYWF.  How would you assess the grips? Have you had FishGrips to compare?

I have FishGrip Jr and a Donkey Leash...both good...neither 'perfect'.  I fish yak CPR and a reliable grip that I can leave fish on in the water is paramount.   Reliable, waterproof scale WITH reliable grips for $30 sounds like a steal

The Kastking fish gripper is identical to the Rapala plastic black and white grippers I also own. They are strong and lock down tight. I have had no issues yet with holding fish (LMB and Pickerel) that are up to 4lbs. The handle on the grip has a pointy part on it that can be annoying as it digs into my hand.

 

Be aware when I ordered this from Amazon the first one I got was broke. I emailed Kastking and got a replacement plus some swag goodies for my troubles. The Kastking Customer Service rep told me that when items are returned to Amazon with no reason given for the return they go back on the shelf to be resold again. The second scale and gripper came in perfect working order.

I've had my Rapala touch screen going on six years and it's the best scale I've ever own. I checked it with a known weight couple of months ago and it's right on. The gripper shown in the picture comes with the current model. $50-$60.

I killed a Brecknell ElectroSamson last season. It was replaced under warranty. Best scale I've ever seen.

 

It was either defective or it was damaged by mild boat locker humidity.

 

Has anyone else had this issue? The screen partially stopped working.
