Caliyak Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 I am thinking about buying a 69 MH rod. My son has the American Hero rod and he uses it for texas rig worms. I looked on BR to see what everyone is using this length for, technique, and found nothing on the BR. So, what is the best use for the 69 rod? Quote
GReb Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 I have several rods between 6’8” and 6’10”. It’s actually my favorite length to thrown jerk baits, squarebills, hard topwater, swimjigs, senkos, smaller spinnerbaits, and lighter t-rigs 1 Quote
PAbasser927 Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 I have a 6’9 MHXF Kistler H3. This is one of my go to rods for bank fishing due to its short length. This is also my preferred length for fishing out of my kayak. I use it primarily for jigs, but it is a versatile rod so it does triple duty when I use it for senkos and any single hook moving bait. 1 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted May 13, 2019 Super User Posted May 13, 2019 I use shorter rods for target casting and working jerkbaits and topwater baits. 6'9" is a pretty versatile length though and can be used for anything. If you like the rod don't let the length deter you. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 13, 2019 Super User Posted May 13, 2019 My custom ALX jig and worm rods all 6'10" because that length is perfect for me. Tom 1 Quote

LCG Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 My go to combos are a 6'8 m-xf spinning rod and a 6'9" Mh-xf casting rod. Covers 99% of my needs. Casting rod is for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, Texas rigged creatures, and jigs. 1 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 14, 2019 Global Moderator Posted May 14, 2019 I have a few rods in the 6' 8" to 6' 10" range that I use for a variety of techniques from spinnerbaits, bladed jigs, buzzbaits, jerkbaits, walking baits, underspins, and close quarters pitching. 1 Quote
Jason Penn Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 i have an old 6'9 mh (more like a m+) daiwa ballistic that i use for spinnerbaits, and it just seems to the perfect length. i feel like it can be used in tight spots more like 6'6, but the extra distance you can get in open areas is more like a 7'. if i can ever talk myself into getting into building, i would probably have a few more 6'9 rods. i would think it would be great for squarebills for the same reasons above. i also think it would make a great frog & topwater rod length. i don't fish much grass, so i dont need a 7'3-7'4 broomstick to drag frog fish out of mats. 1 Quote

Caliyak Posted May 14, 2019 Author Posted May 14, 2019 Thank you guys. I notice that on BR I get practical advise from anglers that are using the rods. I go on Youtube and they are pushing 7, 76 or 8 feet rods for the same techniques. That is why I come here first and take this advise. Thank you again. Quote

Those guys are fishing tournaments from bass boats. I don't think that is most people. Bank, kayak, and small boat anglers are a little bit more versatile out of necessity. Can't bring 20 rods with you. The pros also get paid to push products too. They do offer lots of great advice but you do have to filter some of it. 1 Quote
