NIGHT FISHING

Already seeing folks mentioning night fishing on the forums; has me all excited! I think I enjoy bass fishing at night more than anything else. I usually have the lakes to myself and the sound of wolves, coyotes, and other critters at night, puts me in my zone.

It's a different world for sure.

While all types of bass fishing are a blast, Night Ops are very close to the top of my list.

Not saying it's 'easy fishing', because on a black night, it is most certainly not.  But the bite, hookset, fish fight and eventual landing, is an experience totally unlike daylight Bassing.

I'm excited about night yak fishing, too.  Maybe as soon as tomorrow.   Certain experiences take on whole other dimensions when on the water in a kayak hours after sunset....like running hard up onto a barely submerged stump....or having a carp slam the bottom of your boat....or bats flying into your line.....wanna see me come right up out of my seat? ...beaver slap at 3 yards....certain heart attack right there...backlash?  May as well just put that rod away....love night fishing, but it sure is a whole lot more 'interesting'

What size lakes are you guys fishing at night in your kayaks? And do you use any kind of lights at all while fishing. I’d like to try this.

I fish Potomac tributaries and small to large (low current) rivers, ponds and reservoirs.

I have a Yakattack VisiPole flag-light and I wear a headlamp that only comes on when necessary.

got a little over 30 days and the heat and humidity will be brutal in my neck of the woods ... heat index over a 100 degrees will be common ... night fishing is poplar here .. big worms t rigged are just one tactic used ...

I'm going to try it this year by god! Already tried once and there was lightning all night so I slept. The sleep part is going to be the hardest, midnight is usually the latest I can hold my eyes open

We've already been pulling all nighters running bush hooks for flatheads. Nothing like building a good fire on a sandbar, checking lines every 2 hrs, and catching channel cats off the sandbars. 

 

Rarely do I Bass fish at night, but I sure do night fish. Working swing shift kinda gets you in shape for it.

I love night fishing and haven't got to do much of it with having a couple little ones at home and working nights. Only being home 2 nights a week, I feel bad asking to be gone one of those nights to be fishing too. Now that they're a little older and pretty reliable about sleeping through the night, I might be able to get back into it a little bit.

You can't turn back the clock, family 1st you have a lifetime to fish. Some of the best memories I cherish are night father and son tournaments.

My favorite is usually having the whole place to yourself, bout 2am, clear skies, half-lit moon. 

 

I enjoy hog hunting with dogs as well, and those still cool nights are the best.

Bank fishing sunset to sunrise is my favorite when it's available.

 

This can be fun for one or a small group.   I usually get to the spot about an hour before sunset.   Most people are slowly packing up the gear and starting to leave.   I get my gear and start fishing.   Gradually the others start packing up at or just after sunset.   There may be a few people that stay behind.   But the excessive noise of loud boats, noisy fisherman (adults & kids) are gone for the most part.  All that remains is you (your gear), water, fish, and other nature.

 

Depending on the locations I may use car light, head lamp, lanterns, night bobber, water lamp.  Just what is necessary for a nice safe night of fishing.   The only noises that I hear are the bzzzzz of my reel, waves, owls, crickets, fish jumping after I set my hook.    As for the night hunters, it's mostly a few bats buzzing around.  They're just hunting for food (bugs, mice).  Other than that no real threat as long as you use common sense.

 

I haven't gone night fishing in a boat or kayak.  But I would make similar precautions, and go with at least one other person.

Many many years ago, my club would have an annual night tournament that ran from 7:00PM Friday night to 7:00AM Saturday morning.  Work all day, fish all night, followed by a one hour drive home....  For young men only.

I love night fishin! Such a different world after dark! I get more quality fish after dark! 

But it’s different some places are better after dark some places are better during the day!

Night fishing!!! We love it. Generally not too hot or too cold and tournaments are short and cheaper. Great way to spend a night with your child or anyone really. And the tap tap taparoo becomes so much more intense after the sun sets ????

I go completely nocturnal in the summer to beat the heat and wake boats (3' waves). It's about time to make the switch.

I've night fished for tears too. It is a totally different world. One night , bank fishing around midnight, casting a spinnerbait, I shined my headlamp down the bank and saw a deer about 15 ft away, looking at me. She jumped off into the darkness. I like big worms, spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits the best. Also , used to hang a Coleman lantern over the side of the boat, and fish for crappie too. Bugs land on the water, and attracts shad and minnows which attract panfish and gamefish too.
