dgkasper58 Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 I am going to take a crazy jump and try to use braid to flouro on a spinning reel. I was wondering what # test I should use. I plan on fishing it with a 6'6'' M rod. My lake is clear with only vegetation on bottom (and docks) and do not need the strongest of lines but prefer 6-12 flouro for most of my applications and was not sure if how heavy braid I should go as most of the braid I use is .001 inches difference (0.0254 MM difference) for 10 pounds of breaking strength. Is this negligible or do I need to be down in that 10-15lb braid area? Quote
PAbasser927 Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 I usually go as light as possible for increased casting distance. I have a 6’8 M rod that I use leaders between 8# and 12# and run 15# braid as a mainline. That way if I have to break off I know it will be my leader that breaks and I won’t be losing tons of mainline. Quote
Brad Reid Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 I typically prefer 10 lbs. braid to an 8 lbs. fluoro (Invizx) leader. I used to use 832 and still like it . . . but I have found that Sufix Nanobraid is smaller in diameter, casts farther. If you intend to cast straight braid, no leader, I'd go down to 6 lbs. Nanobraid. Nothing can break it. It'd work great on a M power spinning rod especially if you use your rod to fight the fish as is intended for a spinning rod and reel. As I have stated before, I can't even imagine using over 10 lbs. braid on a M powered spinning gear. Brad Quote
Allaroundfishing Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 I used 10lb spiderwire on a 7ft medium and used either 6 or 8 lb fluoro and i had a lot of knots slip and fail, mind you this could have been mainly my fault, but since switching up to a 20lb braid and still using 10-12 fluoro I have only had a knot fail once, however I am using the Alberto knot and i'm much more proficient at tying knots. To me the smaller diameter braid was nice because it cut through wind better but the size in negligible when you look at diameter. Quote
TotalNoob Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 I've been using a 7' M/F and a 6'6" M/F spinning with 15 to 20lb braid main line connected to 8 or 10lb fluoro (.28mm and .30mm). Zero issues. They are terrific, sensitive setups. Tie a solid 22-26 wrap FG knot and 100% of your breakoffs will be at your terminal knot ? Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted May 13, 2019 Super User Posted May 13, 2019 I like 10 lb braid with 8-12 lb mono leader on a 1000 sized reel and med or med light stick. works well for a lot of things. Quote
