Jeff Browning Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 I’m relatively new to boat ownership so this may be a dumb question but here goes... I recently bought a Lund Pro V Bass and was thinking of taking it down to the Norfolk, VA area to chase puppy drum. This is a once/twice a year thing I’m thinking about, the boat is used in fresh water the rest of the time. Is it a bad idea to take a “multi-species” boat to salt water? Other than rinsing the boat and flushing the motor are there any other pitfalls? Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted May 12, 2019 Super User Posted May 12, 2019 Pay attention to the trailer's wheel bearings and other components that salt water can damage. When it comes to electrical connections dielectric grease is your friend. I don't use my boat in salt water but I liberally apply the grease to all plug in connectors. That includes the running lights as well as the trailer's connections, and the plug for the trailer/vehicle connector. 1 1 Quote

rboat Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Personally, I would avoid salt water. If you go for it, rinse everything especially the trailer as stated above. Also spray and wipe all metal in the boat with a good lubricant, locks, pedastals, springs, TM motor, etc. Overspray while boating and even just salt air can be extremely corrosive. Flush the outboard real good. The water ports and thermostat have small channels that can play havoc if any salt is left. 1 Quote
