I have a 125HP Mariner motor. I was fishing a tournment with my buddy the other day and we ran into some trouble. Running at full power we were fine. But once we hit a no wake zone and throttled down at idle speed(no wake) the motor was sputtering and sounding like it bogged down and shut off. We re started it and it did the same thing all the way back to the marina. What would be causing this. Fast replys needed.

Thanks,

JJ

first off try the easiest.

1. change the spark plugs, you could have fouled one.

2. make sure that you primer bulb is staying hard. If it get soft there could be air getting in to the line. If the case, replace the fuel line and bulb

3. make sure you are getting spark to all your cylinders. REMEMBER the 115-125 HP Merc/Mariner 4 cyliner motors only run on 2 cylinders under ( I think its 1,200RPM,) I also think its the bottom two cylinder that it runs on, so you will have to get the RPM's up to check that.

4. clean your fuel filter.

If all those fail to help your problem. I would have it checked out by a Merc shop. and get the carbs cleaned, rebuilt. The last thing you want to do is hurt the powerhead

the post above pretty much covers it all but if all that fails, then you have a dirty carb, and need to clean it or if your not very mechanically inclined pay some one to rebuild it. any time i have any 2 stroke running rough, i check plugs first, then check the fuel system for air in the lnes/ cloged fuel filter and i always clean the carbs. 2 strokes are pretty simple really.

also when you put new plugs in, check if you get a good hot spark. i run a compression check too but not everyone has a compression tester...

remember do the basic stuff first.
