gailt Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 I added new bearings to a handle on one of my reels ,the trouble is the knob doesn't turn free when I snug the knob screw never had this problem before,by the way its a bass or die knob., GG Quote
MountainMan83 Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 Hmm. Are the new bearings wider than the bushings I assume they replaced? If the posts have washers, try removing one to start. You'd be surprised sometimes how small of a washer will effect a perfectly spaced knob from either too loose or too tight. Quote
gailt Posted May 11, 2019 Author Posted May 11, 2019 yea I've tried removing the washers adding more, and just cant get the knob to spin freely when I tighten the knob screw.I'm going to try some different knobs next to see if I still have the same problem. thanks for your reply GG Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted May 11, 2019 Super User Posted May 11, 2019 Did you use grease or any kind of lubricant? Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted May 12, 2019 Super User Posted May 12, 2019 A while back I bought some very thin washers and can always solve this by playing around with a few different combinations. Quote
papajoe222 Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 It sounds like the bearings you purchased may be the correct size as far as inside and outside diameters, but are too thick. If the overall thickness is more than the original, there is no space for the bearing to spin freely as the screw, or washer is locking up the bearing. If you have access to a micrometer, you can check this out yourself. Measure across the entire surface, not just the outside edge. That will eliminate a false measurement. Then measure the original bearing/bushing. 1 Quote
