GrabLifeByTheGills Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 Hello everyone. This may not be the right place to post this and i apologize if it aint. I just wanted some suggestions. I got a buddy that owns a house boat on a local lake that also has an underwater dock light. There is some trophy striped bass and occasionally some lunker largemouth around it. Ive caught some nice fish there but when i hook the really big ones they take me under the houseboat and snap my line. Im fishing from a boat casting toward the light. Ive tried everything including a 6500 reel with 65lb braid. I need a reel that can handle big fish and stop one from running on a dime. Basically ive gotta really horse these fiah to the boat. I need something i can cast into the light. I need a rod, reel, line suggeations. Thanks Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted May 11, 2019 Super User Posted May 11, 2019 Revo Toro Beast 60 HS paired with a Daiwa DX heavy swimbait rod spooled with 30 lb P-line CXX should give you the upper hand. Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 12, 2019 Super User Posted May 12, 2019 30+lb striper is going to run, it's up to you to control what direction it's going. Stripers are normally open water predators moving fast to run down bait, not under docks where the baitfish has the advantage to out manuever the the faster fish. put yourself between the shore and dock, cast out and bring the lure/bait towards to stripers, when hooked they will run away from you out of harms way. Good luck with that! ? Big Stripers are like Bull Reds, ya gotta have room to let em run. Ambassadeur 6500 spooled with 65# braid is plenty enough reel, couple that with an 8' extra heavy rod ya still gonna be hard pressed to stop Stripers on a dime. 1 Quote
