Recarpeting my boat

I just read an article on how to re-carpet a boat.  I have a few questions about how to do it.  First I have an 1980 Ranger Bass boat that only cost 1800 dollars.  I looked into having it done by a company and they wanted 750 dollars, there is no way I am going to spend that amount of money on something I payed so little for.  I was told that I could buy some indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot and that is in my price range.  It looks like they previously glued the carpet down but in the article it say's to use some sort of spray on adhesive, what should I use to take off the glue and what to attach the carpet to my boat.  If anyone could give me some advice that would be great.

3M makes a spray adhesive (super 77 and 90) that you can get from Lowes that works great.  They also make an adhesive remover (6040)in an aerosol form.   8-)

i used 3m spray adhesive to carpet my jon boat and it worked great.

I use water repellant carpet glue from any marine dealer. It will keep it from wrinkling. You can get the high grade carpet from a boat dealer that will last twice as long as the indoor-outdoor stuff and looks a lot nicer. It runs about 10.00 a running foot here in Houston. Makes a nice job that will stay with you.

I am in the process of recarteping now and I bought the glue from lowes, it was like $13 for a gallon.  Make sure you read the instructions because there are several types and only one is recommended for fiberglass or metal applications.  I've never heard to the 3M spray, I may have to go to Lowes and check it out as I havn't started gluing yet, I've just finished all the cutting yesterday.

marine carpet is made with straight bristles instead of loops and snags far fewer fish hooks as a result. just a thought...

I found nice marine grade carpet at lowes for .72 a sq ft and its got the straight rather than looped bristles.
