James D.G Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Anyone ever heard of , and or fished a heddon baby zara. Can’t find any info on it, seen some on eBay, and all were listed as vintage heddon baby zara. I figure someone on here has to know something about them. Quote
crypt Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 oh yeah, got a couple of em. fish em just like a regular size spook. light tackle, big fish bait. good luck with em. Quote
waymont Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Excellent top water bait. Catches lots of fish when the time is right. If you have any streams with smallies in them definitely give them a try. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 10, 2019 Super User Posted May 10, 2019 Are you talking about the Zara Puppy? It is the 3" 1/4oz version and is a killer for pressured fish. I don't use it much but I always have it on river trips. There are times during the summer when Damselflies are all over and the smallmouth start feeding on them. When that happens they are reluctant to chase other baits but we found 2 that work extremely well when that happens. One of those is a Zara Puppy, we tried poppers and the regular Zara Spook, Super Spook, and Super Spook Jr. but none work for that situation. The Zara Puppy in black shore minnow and blue shore minnow work all the time but the blue is by far the best and we believe it is because the hue is similar to the Damselfly color. Sorry for rambling but I don't often see anyone looking or talking about that bait very much. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Heddon_Zara_Puppy_Walking_Bait/descpage-HZP3.html 1 Quote

I hadn't tried the blue color, but the dragonfly/damselfly explanations makes it seem like it would be worth getting one next order. Quote
fin Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 This is the lure OP is asking about: I've never used one, or even seen one that I recall, but I can't imagine it would walk as good as a puppy. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 11, 2019 Super User Posted May 11, 2019 I got one around here somewhere, never fished it cause it belonged to my Dad. They were wooden & I don't believe they were in production that long. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 11, 2019 Super User Posted May 11, 2019 I’ve got 3 or 4 of them. They’re old so I don’t fish with them. Quote

I have one, but I could never get it to walk. But then again, I'm not very coordinated. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted May 13, 2019 Super User Posted May 13, 2019 I've never seen that one. I was thinking Zara Puppy, like others, and yes, the Puppy is a killer in high vis conditions. The Baby Zara looks like it would be a short darting walker, bc it is so short, like the way a weedless "frog" bait walks. Longer baits glide further. One short darter I have is the Bomber/Excalibur Spit'n Image. It should behave in a similar way as the Baby Zara. And, it's still made: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Heddon_Spitn_Image_Walking_Bait/descpage-HSI.html Quote
