j bab Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Apparently Garmin has a troll motor coming out. Here's a video of Bill Dance "spilling the beans." It's pretty obvious that this was a staged "leak" to create more buzz, but it seems like big news regardless. I wonder what it'll be like compared to the new Lowrance and Motorguide troll motors that are also coming out? 1 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted May 9, 2019 Global Moderator Posted May 9, 2019 One of my coworkers is a big walleye angler and just ordered a couple Lowrance graphs and a Xi5. I told him Lowrance has a TM coming out and he said he knew that and asked one of his friends who’s sponsored by Lowrance and has tested the new Lowrance TM and he told him to get the Xi5. My assumption is the Lowrance TM isn’t all that impressive. Maybe our Garmin guy will chime in about the new TM, of course like @Glenn he has to be tight lipped, but maybe he’ll be vague and say something like “it’s awesome” or “you won’t be disappointed”. More competition is a good thing for us consumers. Quote
ratman Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Now us garmin guys should be able to interface trolling motor and fish finder.I would imagine it will have the worlds best spot lock.Glad i did not pull trigger on terrova. Quote

Me too. I was hinted in March when I talked to Garmin... I was telling them how they need to get a trolling motor out because diehard Garmin users have the least options. I was told to wait... Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted May 19, 2019 Global Moderator Posted May 19, 2019 Not much of the new TM is shown here, but the head of the TM is different looking. 1 Quote
j bab Posted May 20, 2019 Author Posted May 20, 2019 It baffles the mind why some pros don't have their troll motor shafts shortened. I would be breaking rods during sidearm casts with the motor as pictured 1 Quote

I hope I'm still a few years away from needing a new one, but another option and more competition couldn't hurt. Really been a fan of my 93SV's (which I know are dinosaurs now in the electronics world), so I'd be pretty interested to see what they come out with. Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 20, 2019 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 20, 2019 Well, what I CAN tell you, is that the trolling motor market is about to bust wide open. There's going to be several new introductions in the coming weeks by newcomers, and also by the old standbys. At least one motor has a very unique head design that brings forth a new way of designing trolling motors. Can't really say more than that at the moment, but I'll be sure to break the news to you guys as soon as I'm able. Can't wait! 4 1 Quote

John Sage Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 I wonder what the "price point" will be for the Garmin TM? Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted May 22, 2019 Global Moderator Posted May 22, 2019 I think they’ll keep us budget minded consumers in mind like they do with their other electronics. Maybe not at first but eventually. Heck maybe they’ll have a whole line up they’ll reveal at ICAST. Quote

Yes, ICAST. There's some *ahem* well contrived *leaks* planned in the coming days where you'll see carefully planned "glimpses" of these new models on social media, to build up expectations. Some of these look a little "odd" compared to what we're used to seeing. All I can say is, get over how they look and pay attention to what they do instead. Also, again, there's several "newcomers" to the trolling motor market, but keep an open mind. Some long-overdue improvements are incorporated into some of these designs. 5 Quote
Mike Cass Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 I would hope to see: Options 1. Red / Green Navigation lights built in (plus driving light/headlight). I had told Minn Kota, Motorguide and a Garmin Rep 2 years ago and most recently at the 2019 Bassmasters Classic in Knoxville about this. 2. Wireless operation. If motorcycles can safely run this way, a trolling motor can also. Get rid of the cables and wires Please. 3. Self Deploy. Only Minn Kota has a good one (Ulterra). 4. Communication with OUR choice of fish finder manufacturers (Dammit ..lol). 5. Built in underwater camera. (Similar to Aqua View). 6. Built-in sound device (similar to Hydrowave). 7. Built-In water Temp Sensor (and Air temp) 8. Of course, keep the price down! (Yeah right!). Quote

bagofdonuts Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 my vote would be for a flush mounted trolling motor. save me a few backlashes. makes no sense why they have to stick up so high. Quote

Yeah, I finally did an Instagram a couple years ago... Yeah, facebook owns it . Instagram is not so intrusive, so set it up with your phone number. Do not allow people look up by your phone number or the app access your contacts. This way you can watch the stream without being bothered by people who know you or want to know you. DO NOT let Instagram create a facebook account for you like I mistakenly did. I then decided to use the FB account. It automatically assumed my Instagram name was first and last name. I changed my name to my real name and FB kicked me off, even after I sent in my ID and everything. Good riddance. Quote

Super User WRB Posted June 21, 2019 Super User Posted June 21, 2019 Game changer would be built in the boat hull like bow thrusters, no deck mounts. Tom 1 Quote

Another thing is no wires going down the motor shaft... So I wonder will they make one with livescope built in? If so, can livescope be independent of the motor movement? Quote
