What are your thoughts on these three Lew's baitcasting reels?

1) Lew's Jason Christie Laser LZR Speed Spool

     7bb, 6.8:1 gear ratio

2) Lew's Mark Rose Speed Spool

     5bb, 7.1:1 gear ratio

3) Lew's Xfinity Speed Spool SLP

      8bb, 7.5:1 gear ratio

Are any of these reels robust enough to handle a 6'6" heavy action Ugly Stik with 50# braid?

I'd skip all those as when it comes to bait casters usually you get what you pay for.  I'd put a few bucks more out there and get a Speed Spool LFS $99 shipped on TW.

I would love too. I however am still unemployed and on a tight budget. I'll have to work on it....

I love my LFS...  so much so that I purchased the Tourney MB which is as nice if not even better.

PSA to guys suggesting the LFS, the Tournament MB is $99 on Ebay, and a decent step better.

I have the Mark Rose Speed Spool. Got on clearance for $30 cracked clamshell packaging. It's a decent reel that I caught my biggest Smallmouth of 2018 with.

Comparing it to the Lew's LFS, Tournament MB and Mach 1 and Mach Crush baitcasters I have is not fair. It's a budget reel and feels like one.

Out of the three reels you mention I would go with the Xfinity Speed Spool. The Green one is a budget version of the Mach 1 and the Orange one is a budget Crush (even has the Winn Grip knobs)

I don’t purchase budget casting reels anymore, but I do purchase budget spinning reels (e.g., President or Sienna). At $99 the Lew’s Speed Spool LFS isn’t “budget,” though some fishermen may consider it inexpensive. It is worth the money. But if you don’t have a casting reel, then a “budget” reel works. My first casting reel was an Abu Garcia Silver Max. When I eventually bought the LFS, I stopped using the Silver Max. But the Silver Max worked well enough. I’d purchase whichever reel fits your budget, has the best reviews, and has the desired gear ratio. A good budget reel should last a few seasons.

While I have no experience with any of these reels I do have experience with Lew's American Hero & Laser TXS. I'm pretty sure they are the same reels just dressed up differently or extremely similar.

Based on my experience with the American Hero & Laser TXS any of your 3 would be good reels for any technique.

The Ugly Stik's history speak for itself ?

I agree the LFS is worth the $99 price tag however it does go on sale from time to time. I got mine for less than $70 on sale at DSG last year.

As far as budget spinning reels I would recommend the Lew's Mach 2 Metal Speed Spin It has a $79 retail price but can be found for as low as $50 on sale most days ($44 at Outfitters Warehouse). For that price you get a whole lot of reel for basically what you pay for a Pflueger President (which I also own)

Aluminum framed reel.

6.2:1 gear ratio

Winn Grip knob

10 bearing system

Braid ready spool

Would you jump on the Lew's Orange Crush Speed Spool for $110? Or is the Tournament MB at  $110 a better option?

That it does.  I think I got mine for like $65 on TW for their 25 days of Christmas sales a couple years ago.

I have both reels. The aluminum framed Tournament MB for $110 is the better deal.

The Crush is an amazing baitcaster but it has a graphite frame. The higher retail cost comes from the oversized Winn Grip knobs.

I would never buy any reel from any company that had a composite frame of any type.

I have the xfinity orange version and can say this reel has the same feel as my mach II.  Yes it is a budget reel but it is built with quality components.  Lews is a company that wants a quality rep.  I caught a 7 lber last week with no problem on this reel.  IMG_20190628_181428_145.thumb.jpg.c28e8d0f34430acadfb74239a21156dc.jpg

I dont buy casting reels with graphite frames. Used to and had to replace them every year or 2. Look around and you can find the speed spool for 80 bucks. Revo x can be had for 75 also and is a fine reel. I understand the budget but 50 or 60 for a year or 2 vs 75 for 5 plus years...easy decision. I recently scored a lews tournament mb for 67 bucks new on Ebay.  Haven't seen them for that price since but just look around.  Especially right now lots of sales goin on

I would wait for something decent to pop up on the classifieds or your craigslist. Those reels wont last.

Dean DSG also has a budget reel from Lews.  the Carbonfire and they also have a rod that goes with it.  I own 4 of the rods and they're solid rods.
