Ksam1234 Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 So after seeing these guys crush smallmouth on a ned rig and dropshot I figured I would finally bite the bullet. I got a ALX trickster and the new daiwa Procyon Lt. can’t wsit for them to come in. Never used a spinning tee so any advice would be helpful. Should I use just braid ? Or just fluoro. Lake Erie is extremely clear water so I was thinking fluoro. I have never done braid to a lewder before so any advice on that would help also ! Bait monkey always biting Quote
Joshua van Wyk Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 That's a great setup which you will enjoy tons! Personally I like 15 lb braid to an 8 or 10 lb leader. 1 Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 I drop shotted alot on St Clair. Go with braid and a fluorocarbon leader. Like the above comment I'd go 15 pound braid but I would use 8 to 6 pound fluorocarbon. I use 7 pound, 6 pound scares me a little. 1 Quote
Ksam1234 Posted May 8, 2019 Author Posted May 8, 2019 How do you use the leader or tie it ? Do you use a long like 3 foot leader or a short one ? I have never tied a leader on before so not sure of the best knot. I was going to use 8 pound fluoro for a leader or main line. @Joshua van Wyk @fishin fool Quote

I like to use an Albright special but I will also use a uni uni if I need retie fast. FG knot is also a very good option if you have the patience to master it 1 Quote
Lead Head Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 FG all the way. I use about a 6' leader since I'm not crazy about having the knot on my spool. 1 Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Double uni knot. I extend my arms and get a leader from finger tip to finger tip. I'd say 6 to 8 foot but I've never really measured. This time of the year I'd keep your drop shot leader length to about 8" to 12". As the weeds start to grow in the summer you can make it 18" to 24" 1 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted May 8, 2019 Super User Posted May 8, 2019 I use 12lb Sunline SX-1 on my spinning setup, but any 15lb braid will do, and then a 6lb or 8lb fluorocarbon leader, usually 6. I use about 7-8' in leader length so the knot never hits the reel, and with a double uni knot with 10 turns, I have no issues with the knot on small lines passing through the micro guides on my Avid X. Straight flurocarbon also works if you prefer. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted May 8, 2019 Super User Posted May 8, 2019 Congratulations. Very nice combo. Love to have the same one. 1 Quote
