Planning on trolling using the reverse setting.  I was just wondering if there any problem from long term reverse usage.  So, if you have been trolling on reverse, please shine in.

Thanks

Not as efficient as forward. Your battery won't get you as far when in reverse due to prop design.

You can probably turn the control head around on the shaft with one bolt depending on your model of trolling motor. Then the handle and motor face the same direction. This is how to turn a transom mount into a bow mount without the fancy deck mount plates.

Thanks sufer!

This was what I did but was not too happy with it.  Do you or anyone know of a better DIY design?

Thanks

Your HM mount is not attached with a strong enough system to not fail if/when you hit the bottom or some underwater object. If you use a straight plate on the front to connect the board to the boat, MAYBE it will hold. If it was me with those materials; I would put another bracket on each side of the one you have plus more on the front.

For intermittent operation, you should get a BIG FOOT switch to turn your motor on and off. That will save you a lot of reaching for the motor while trying to fish. Walmart has them.

Another problem with reverse, most motor bearing surfaces are not designed for prolonged reverse operation.

The single light gauge bracket will not hold that block of wood and trolling motor firmly. Move the 2x4 back so it is flush with the front of the boat. Add 2 of the front straps that Wayne mentioned. One on each end of the 2x4. Then use 2 of those brackets in the back. One on each end of the 2x4. Drill 2 new holes in each of the brackets closer to the 90* corner on the boat side of the bracket. Put screw in those holes. Take a hamer and bend the exess bracket that hangs into your boat down to meat the aluminum.  That should get you through 2 or 5 years.
