I just picked up another shomano curado k 7.4.1 to go along with the 6.2.1 I already have on a 7ft mh/f abu vendetta. I'm looking at either the abu veritas or the st croix bass x, 7ft mh/f. What's everyone's experience and opinions on the veritas and bass x and which would you choose. This will mainly be an all around type rod for jerkbaits and jigs. Thanks for y'alls time!

I haven't used the St Croix rods, but I really like the Veritas line.  Light, sensitive, well balanced.  They do seem to run a bit heavy as far as their power rating, so keep that in mind.

Veritas are very good rods. I was never really impressed with the Bass X, not that they're bad in any way.

Veritas do run a tad bit heavy as the other guy said.

I'm a huge St. Croix fanboy.  I don't like the BassX either.  I'd go with the Veritas, which I also own.

I got to hold a fenwick hmg next to a veritas and bass x and,,,, the hmg was an amazing feeling rod, why dont you like the bass.  If I may ask, I'm also a huge st croix fan, but I have their more expensive rods

Bump it up to the Mojo Bass over the X IMO.

I just doesn't seem to have the same backbone to me.   I have mostly Avid's and AvidX's after upgrading from the Mojo Bass.  I still have a MH/Moderate BassX that would make a good rod for small poppers and small squarebills.

Good advice. Go with the Veritas if you're on a budget, but go with the Mojo Bass if you can swing a little extra, it's a great rod for the money.

So do most St. Croix rods as well. For the most part, I think St. Croix and Abu Garcia ratings are on par with each other. Usually the line rating is a decent indicator of what to expect from the rod.

I agree with @Boomstick.  If you're on a budget go with the Veritas, its a very good rod for the price.  I own 2 of them.  If you want to go with the St. Croix, I'd definitely recommend upgrading the the Mojo, I'd skip the Bass X.

I've never been a fan of the veritas rods. Way too stiff for their ratings and in my opinion much better options at the price point. Dont know anything about the x but the new mojo rods are nice.

The shimano slx rods are hard to beat for their price point

If you’re open to other rods, I say get another Shimano to match. The Shimano Exage is right at the $100 dollar price range normally and gets great reviews. They are also on sale right now for $80 on TW

Can only speak to the Veritas and only because you mentioned its purpose would include jerkbaits - I have a 6'9" MH/F Veritas that was intended specifically for jerkbaits in the 1/2 to 5/8oz range. It's exceptionally sensitive but has very little give. I can feel every single headshake as they get tons of leverage against the stiff rod on jerkbaits. I don't use this rod for treble hook applications. I can't say how much better the Medium would be for jerkbaits but I'd definitely avoid MH.

I had two veritable rods break randomly for no reason, I also had two vendetta rods donthe exact same thing. Can’t say I’ve ever had a rod break like these 4 did. I don’t buy Abu rods anymore

Did you try to get them replaced? In my experience Abu has amazing CS. I broke my Vendetta rod while riding my bike and they sent me a brand new one for $10.

Both Veritas had gear guard warranty from bass pro, so they reimbursed them, the second one was the replacement of the first. After the second broke I switched to the BPS carbonite rods and haven’t looked back.

I didn’t contact about the vendettas, but it’s been too long now. Both broke around the same spot, just above the second eye. I retipped, and repurposed both rods, a 6’9” went to a 6’5” that I used for top water(this one eventually met a tailgate end) and a 7’ went to a 6’8” that I still use for Texas rigs.
