BassSam5 Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 I’m looking into these reels and haven’t heard anything bad but I’m still a little skeptical about purchasing one. Would you recommend a Piscifun or a Kastking?

Would you recommend a Piscifun or a Kastking? I compare these reels to Black, Silver and Pro Max. I had a KastKing and I have two Piscifuns. Piscifuns are made from the same company that makes Ardent. The same company says it makes Pure Fishing products- Abu Garcia. I had the Kastking Spartacus. Great reel. Magnet and centrifugal brakes in that reel. It did not backlash. It was a great reel. You can't go wrong with these reels. Take care of them and they should last you.

That's pretty much my experience so far I own a few Kastking (baitcasting and spinning reels) a few Piscifun (baitcasting and spinning) and a Johncoo JC-200 (Assassin's clone) and a FishingSir Aegir. I feel they all fish above their price. The Aegir I paid 36 CAD and it really impresses me for the price paid ! I also had to use KK customer service. Been a little slow to get an answer to my taste (a few days) but it ended with a return of Spartacus Plus that had a paint problem that made the spool grind on the overpainted area.

Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 4, 2019 Super User Posted May 4, 2019 Kastking reels get a bad rap. Deserved...no. Are there better reels out there, sure! But I can honestly say I wish they were around when I was attempting to learn baitcasters when I was young. They have come a long way since they started with Superpower braid. I think where they shine now is spinning reels and rods. You get a whole lot of reel for the price if You buy a Sharky 3 smooth, silent and sealed. Love the direct drive handle. The Perigee 2 rod is my benchmark for cost and quality balance. It is a great rod for $60 and it performs at the $100+ level. As as far as customer service goes, Kastking has been great to me. I have a lot of KK gear and had 2 issues so far. First was a drag knob that was damaged. The replacement was shipped and I received it before my next trip. Lesson I Hope learned, they do have replacement parts for those that want to keep a reel going until they die. Second was a damaged product shipped to me. The rep at KK explained since their orders are shipped by Amazon sometimes folks return stuff but do not say why. These items go back on the shelf to be sent to the next consumer. I got the replacement item and it worked.

Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 5, 2019 Super User Posted May 5, 2019 My Son bought the 8:1 Assassin reel and he likes it, so I though for $50.00 why not.
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 5, 2019 Global Moderator Posted May 5, 2019 I've had great experiences with KK customer service when I've contacted them, once because a reel needed to be replaced and once because a rod broke during shipping. Both time I was taken care of quickly and professionally. I'd be willing to bet that very few people who talk badly about them have ever seen one in person, let alone had any real on the water experience with them. I own quite a few KK reels and rods and really enjoy fishing with them. I didn't buy them because some Youtuber pushed them. I bought them because I tried a couple for an extended period of time, tried to tear them apart and couldn't do it, and realized I liked their gear. I don't know if I'd switch over to all KK gear, but I've always enjoyed fishing different stuff so that's not really a reflection on them so much as it is on me liking lots of different kinds of toys. I've had lower end Daiwa and Shimano reels and was really unimpressed and would have a very difficult time convincing myself to try another one at this point. I don't get anything from them, no discounts or sponsorship, but I'll keep fishing their stuff, including an Assassin that is over 2 years old now and accounted for my current biggest bass of year so far and shows no signs of being ready to be "thrown away". 3
Super User Oregon Native Posted May 5, 2019 Super User Posted May 5, 2019 I only have three Kastkings but enjoy them all and have had to send one in for a thumb bar problem and had great customer service...I tend to agree with Bluebasser on his comments. 1
Super User flyfisher Posted May 5, 2019 Super User Posted May 5, 2019 I have one of the KK speed demons or whatever it is called. It is alright but nothing special. It is kind of heavy but once i got it dialed in it does cast a mile but is already noisy. For the money it is alright but i'd just keep your eyes peeled on the fishing flea market forum here instead. 1
Caliyak Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 Piscifun is easy to contact; Facebook, Instagram and website. They have an American tech that took care of me. Also DVT offered to help me.
