WhiteMike1018 Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Hello all I'm posting this in this section because I dont really want to buy it I only need it for this Saturday. I'm looking for this dragonfly lure from river2sea... Alot of the bass in the lake I have been fishing have been known to stalk dragonflys this time of year, and a guy posted a report on a website that wherever he saw a dragonfly he would cast to it with a small senko the same color as the dragonfly and catch a bass. Well im looking for the actual dragonfly lure! The lures are ridiculously pricey at $10.00 retail plus the shipping an it probably wont be here on time for the tourney (this Saturday) Thats what the lure looks like... My odds are saying that I might not have it by Saturday ..so im thinking on making my own dragonfly imitation. I was thinking on maybe getting a small senko and sticking something through it to make it have winds like a dragonfly, they would have to be clear tho, or look like real dragonfly wings? So what do you guys think? Any ideas? White Mike needs your assistance! Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 28, 2007 Super User Posted June 28, 2007 Dan ( Lightningrod ) had some of those, I was going to pull the trigger on a couple when he told me not to do so, the wings fell off on his after a couple of fish, so I have to thank Dan again for saving me some bucks on the lures and a couple sessions of anger management after seeing my lure without wings. Super User T-rig Posted July 2, 2007 Super User Posted July 2, 2007 I have six of these things and never had problems with the wings, they only lost some color after a few fish but still work. They are bit difficult to cast but with spinning tackle I can cast them quite a distance. Have a look here: http://tackletour.com/reviewriver2seadragonfly.html Quote
Super User David P Posted July 2, 2007 Super User Posted July 2, 2007 The wings do seem a bit flimsy when I've seen them for sale at my local store, and Dan did tell me to stay away due to the fact of the wings. I'm going to buy 1 or 2 just for the hell of it and give'm a test. I've been seeing bass hitting dragon flies a lot lately. Go to the River2Sea site, they have local dealers on there I believe, maybe you can find a place near you? Quote
bpm2000 Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 thats an interesting idea - trying to make your own. I would use a 4" slim senko cut down a bit smaller with some plastic from soem kind of packaging (that stiff kind that always houses small electronics - really annoying to get off so you always end up cutting it). I would hope that would be enough to float it... I think a 3" senko might have too much weight and would sink. Quote
Cephkiller Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 You might try using a floating Rapala and gluing some clear hard plastic on top for wings. Then paint it up to look right. Quote
islandfisherman Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 As a flyfisherman for bass I will throw a dragonfly when I can see them out on the water, they do catch fish!!,you can tie them yourself they are not hard to do but would be hard to throw with a spinning set-up.I seem to remember that Uncle Josh makes a dragonfly lure, and I think B.P. sells them.....Good Luck,Alan Quote
bpm2000 Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 those are uncle buck, not uncle josh. totally soft plastic - i wonder if they float or sink slowly? kinda small at 2" though... Quote
Lightninrod Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Not for me...... :-/ I might be able to throw one with 4 lb line on a spinning rig but the wind will catch them and.....I don't use spinning tackle They are realistic looking but the ones I had were fragile and I didn't try them for more than 3 or 4 casts and not one strike plus, one or more 'wings' broke off :. If the wings just fall off its not that big of a deal if they are still in one piece..? Quote

Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 4, 2007 Super User Posted July 4, 2007 hmmm i wouldnt reccoment using a senko for a dragonfly imitation...maybe try some floating worms and just cut them up to shape and add the wings like you said. Quote
Tpayneful Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 I have a blue dragon fly lure in my tackle bag. A friend bought three of them. He caught a few fish on the first one and a wing broke off. He decided that he didn't want the heartache of losing another $10 bait so he gave one to me and one to another friend. I haven't tried it yet but it does look just like a dragon fly that we found in our yard last week! Quote
