Bdnoble84 Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 Ive been watching too many fly tying videos lately apparently and had to try hollow tying a jig with bucktail. First i had to find a pen big enough to fit over the head, but once i did, it was alot of fun. Im not sure how well it will fish, but it looks cool anyway. 2 Quote
Bdnoble84 Posted May 2, 2019 Author Posted May 2, 2019 Made a black bucktail hollow tie spinnerbait as well. Added black crystalflash green flashabou rabbit zonker claws and black craft fur mid section. Feel like this will push some water and be good in low light conditions. 5 hours ago, WRB said: Looks good and will work! Tom Thank you. Even if it doesnt. Part of the fun of all this is try’s ng new things, especially things you really dont see done alot on jigs. 1 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 3, 2019 Super User Posted May 3, 2019 They will work well!!!! I've done jigs like that but only on jig heads without a ringed collar. That technique is great for keeping different color layers separate and for creating flare and yours look great, they will catch fish for sure!! 1 Quote
smr913 Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Something to look at are the EP Fiber Brushes. They are dubbing brushes that you wrap around the hook shank. Really easy way to quickly tie up a jig. Just tie on a rabbit strip tail and palmer the brush down the shank. I like the 3" brushes since they give a bigger profile and can be trimmed down to whatever shape you like. Quote

I left the collar fully intact on the jig as i really didnt have any sort of plan for the tie when i started. It didnt really make it as difficult as i feared it might. The spinnerbait was one that poured a messed up collar and i had been saving for hair. Worst part about it was when i got close to the head i kept poking my fingers on the hook, because i was struggling to build the thread dam.... ouch. It was worth the finished product though. Hopefully going out tomorrow and ill be able to try them out Quote
Bdnoble84 Posted June 28, 2019 Author Posted June 28, 2019 So an update on this tie style. Really cool in the water. Very ultra slow drop. Looks like spider legs when sitting. When i pull them through the water the make a nice big umbrella like profile shape. Havent cought anything yet on them but that is more just to do with high and muddy water conditiins Quote
thinkingredneck Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 I like your jigs! Bucktail is good to work with and you can get a ton of colors and flashabou and krystal flash to match. Christmas tensel works on larger sizes. Catching fish on something you tied is the ultimate for me. 1 Quote
