WdyCrankbait Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Hey everyone, I am heading to Wakefield, VA this weekend and staying at the 4H club. Has anyone fished that lake out there? If so, can you give some advice to point me in the correct direction? Thank you, Wdy Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 2, 2019 Super User Posted May 2, 2019 Sure. Note the following: 1. Fish in the water, even though it is wet. 2. Look for any downed trees or shrubs along the bank and go stomping in them to see if there are any snakes. 3. Look for beaver huts and walk on top of them to get a better angel. Don't worry about the copperheads. They won't bother you. 4. Water moccasins are in the area so look for them. If you see any just pull on their tail and they will squirm away. 5. Be sure to tell anyone who comes by the exact name and brand of all equipment and tackle you are using or have with you. 6. Have your fishing license with you even if the odds of you catching anything are from zero to none. 7. Yell and dance if you do land a bass so everyone around will hear you and come to beg you to use your stuff to fish. Now, those are just a few of the suggestions I can give you. Have a fun time and let me know how you do. Take some pics of your catches. And for heaven's sake, Woody, don't fall in. 1 2 Quote

Sam you forgot to tell him not to worry about any stray bullets from the firing range across the lake. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 5, 2019 Super User Posted May 5, 2019 Right! Woody told me he caught one. He also broke #7 above and the guy using his baitcaster got a very bad backlash, putting the reel out of commission. You don't let anyone use your baitcasters unless they are true bass fishermen and know how to use a baitcaster. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted May 5, 2019 Author Posted May 5, 2019 Yeah, I did get one on a GYCB Kreature bait. My best producing crawfish plastic I use. He was about 1.25 lb, dark back! Nothing big, but it has been awhile since I caught a bass. I chalk that up to taking too much advice from Sam during that dry spell. hahahahahah!!!! Anyhow, yes, I did let someone who has never fished before use my Lew's baitcaster and he got a mammoth birds nest. After 3 hours I finally had it picked out, I did not bring more line. (I swore I did, but it was sitting on my night stand when I got home.) Yep, ample gun fire yesterday! I thought there was a local milita getting ready for something! Great place to fish if you ever have the chance to fish it! Wdy Quote
