If your Mama( or any family) are still with you never take that for granted. We as a species tend to let life get in the way, DON'T!  If it's nothing more than a phone call take that five(5) minutes and just let them hear you voice, be positive, and let them know you care.

Don't let a gathering be the only time you talk/see those closest to you! Please don't take time for granted: it's precious. Time spent far surpasses anything you can do. Go see or talk to those you dearly love TODAY, it's important to all parties involved.

I was very fortunate 16 years ago to have learned this lesson and it has served me well since.  To the strong woman that has had a tremendous impact on many, I'm glad you are home.

I sorely miss my Mother, who left my Dad, siblings, and me

a few years ago with a sudden stroke. NEVER take her presence

for granted. Ever. Thanks for posting.

Hits home for me today. Dad texted me at 4:30 this afternoon that mama is in the hospital with fluid on her heart. She's been hospitalized 3 times in the last 6 months for various things including a mini stroke. I try to not let it get to me but inevitably it does. I take dad fishing as much as I can because I don't know how much longer he will be around....but I don't take mom anywhere. I suck as a son.

Very nice post and great advice. My mom passed a couple years ago. I was blessed to be able to have her in my home the last 5 years of her life. I still struggled with patience with her even though she got even sweeter the older she got.

I wish I could have a hug from her and eat some of her salmon cakes again.( And fried fish !) Her and dad were the best 2 human beings I ever knew.

Some day, thank God, I'll see them again in much better circumstances.

Not to take away from the OP. My mom had a procedure and they drained 1 liter of fluid from around her heart. It went well. She spent a day in ICU and was supposed to get discharged today. Not happening

Hope everything turns out alright slonezp, sucks to have to deal with family getting older. My old man is currently in the hospital with stomach cramps/bleeding etc and they’re gonna do a scope tomorrow to figure out what’s going on. He’s in his early 70’s, and has been fairly healthy his whole life. Mom had a small stroke a little while back, luckily it didn’t really do much to her other than some headaches. Sometimes I have to stop and realize, they’re not getting any younger and one of these days something serous is gonna happen, guess that’s just the way it goes but it still sucks.

Mom is 79 and the tests show she has lymphoma. She has 4 cat scans scheduled for Monday.

Two years ago my dad almost died after Father’s Day from complications from a botched hernia repair and was in a medically induced coma from June through August and again from December through February.

We just lost my father-in-law last week from complications of a brain tumor.

These things come out of nowhere and are unexpected. Don’t take anything for granted.
