So I bought this boat, and after I opened each bench seating I realised that the bench seats only extend under the casting deck a few inches. There is no room for 1 piece rods of any kind. I've been deciding to delete a bench and or live well to make a storage box but I'm scared to cut the fiberglass.

Any ideas anyone? I just want a way to put my rods in rod socks and hide them in the boat.

Thanks!

Nice old boat!  If it was mine I would not cut into the glass anywhere.  How about removing the padded seat and padded wrap around and building a rod box out of wood or whatever and adding that to the top of the bench seat...?  You could do it on one side or both.  Or, do this on both sides and extend it right up to the front, creating a raised casting platform (flipping deck) which would give you room to add a recessed well for your foot control.  A lot of added weight, but.....?  Good luck with whatever you do!

I’d keep my rods in the garage or my tow vehicle and not cut up the boat in any way.

How long is it from the floor drain to the rear seats?  I'd build a box down the center if the length works.

2 or 3 rods go in the passenger seat and strap to the side handle, we didn't have more then 3 rods back in the late 70's.
