Yumeya Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 What are some must have plastics for Crappie? Gonna go out next week, but I lack fishing gear for Crappie. Will be using a bobber/float. Thanks for any info. Quote
rickyg Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Mostly do pond fishing for crappie but I've used a beetle spin in yellow/black with some success. Quote
PAbasser927 Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 White curly tail grubs are a staple of mine. Most times this is the only color I will use. I will rotate between a few different color jig heads before switching to something else if they still won’t bite. Though for me it seems like if I have to switch to something else, it’s probably not going to be a great crappie day. 2 Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted April 28, 2019 Super User Posted April 28, 2019 2" Keitech swing impacts with 1/32 jig. When bigger are biting Ill use 2.8" FAT paddletails on 1/8 jighead. This works well under a float or just casting it out no bobber. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted April 28, 2019 Super User Posted April 28, 2019 When crappie are shallow Beetle Spins tear them up . 2 Quote
Jleebesaw Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Get one of the kits they sell. Every bait shop will have them. It will have several different sized jig heads and some small spinners that can be attached to them if you want to. The crappie kits usually have curl tail grubs and tubes. They will have several different colors and sizes of each. Wal mart and bps have them for about $10. Also, the small under spin jigs work well. I like to use live minnows personally, but I have had success with plastics too. 1 Quote
Dorado Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 If you’re using a bobber, look no further than these two options. The Atomic Tubes are already pre-rugged on 1/32 jig heads. Those 1” Gulp minnows work wonders nose hooked on the lightest hook you can find, like the ones @QUAKEnSHAKE posted. You want that excruciatingly slow fall when bobber fishing. Crappie love that 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted April 28, 2019 Super User Posted April 28, 2019 Right now , in my area they are killing the crappies on the bank . Facebook is full of limits of slabs and smiling faces . 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 29, 2019 Global Moderator Posted April 29, 2019 Bass Assassin Tiny Shad Assassin, Bobby Garland Baby Shad and Slab Slay'R, Strike King Crappie Joker are my favorite crappie baits. I catch more crappie on Ned Rigs and Jerkbaits than anything though. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted April 29, 2019 Global Moderator Posted April 29, 2019 Bobby Garland baby shad is all you'll ever need, I hate bobbers though 3 Quote

haggard Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 My go-to is a 2-inch paddle tail grub (light green) on a small ball jig head with eyes. Prior to that I've had great crappie luck on a Crappie Magnet (black/chartreuse) This year I'm going to try Bobby Garland 3" slab slayer (black/chartreuse). But the go-to for panfish and crappie is still the 2-inch CT grub. Unless the Garland proves otherwise. Quote
rod snapper Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 if I'm bass fishing and see some crappie or bluegill, ill take a beetle spin and try to catch a couple just to keep things interesting. they are surprisingly easy to catch though. 1 Quote
greentrout Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 when i crappie fish i always bring some road runners along with me ... they do catch the sac-a-lait ... good fishing ... 1 Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 I like any of the Mr Crappie Strike King plastics. The Slabalicious is my best producer, it is a little boot tail grub. Quote
Dorado Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 If you’re ever on a boat/kayak, fish these guys on a small jig or roadrunner to catch the slabs! 1 Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted May 14, 2019 Super User Posted May 14, 2019 Technically, it isn't plastic but I've had my best luck with Gulp Minnows (2 inch). Suspended under a bobber, it's a killer. 1 Quote
Black Hawk Basser Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 Good ole salt & pepper 1.5" tube is almost always deadly Quote
Jleebesaw Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Went out friday after work and got 75. Caught them all on Mr crappie slab slangers and mr crappie slab poles. Blue with silver flakes and white with chartreuse tails were the main colors we used. Im not sure if they are spawning yet up here but they are moving up shallow. Got most of them in only about 6ft. Water surface temps about 60 degrees. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 27, 2019 Super User Posted May 27, 2019 Rooster Tails or One inch white Curley tail grub on a fly fishing 1/32 or 1/64 gold or silver jig head on 4 pound fluorocarbon on a spinning rig. Quote
